2112 reacted to Chuck in Angels employee details team's knowledge of Tyler Skaggs' drug use to DEA
And here I thought the hot topic today was going to be Johnny Washington.

He didn't cause Skaggs' death. I'd say, sadly, that Skaggs caused his own death. As far as we know, no one was forcing him to take opiates and fentanyl.
This isn't about blame. Skaggs had a problem and/or just got out of hand that one night.

On a scale from extremely uncomfortable to depths of he'll, how hot is your seat right now Billy?

I think Nagy fixed Robles. The Mets wouldn't allow him to throw one of pitches, and the Nagy did.
I really wondered about Barria. It looked like there was no direction from anyone when he was pitching.

Not a huge surprise on White. Despite injuries, the year the pitching staff had made a scapegoat necessary. White admitting there had been communication issues made him a dubious bet to return.
Paul is a bit more unexpected, but it might be them deciding that the new manager should bring in his own guy. Or there could be stuff we don’t know about. Honestly, I don’t know how fans would even assess whether a bench coach is good at his job or not.
One thing seems obvious, 2020 will be a year of serious change. A team like the Angels that tanks when trying to stay competitive? Big changes will happen. I’m glad Eppler isn’t gone. Despite what some wankers on here feel, he hasn’t actually had enough time to implement his plan from the colossal mess this team was in when he arrived. Anyone who thinks differently is naive about how bad things were and how much time it takes to fix that. To change course to win-now mode before now (and to go too hard in that direction now) would be disastrous.

It would be humorous though. Maybe that Ranger Fan guy that lives with his mother and goes through way too much Kleenex would post again...

the part above about Scioscia being Maddon's bench coach was a joke -- that's the role Maddon served for Scioscia and some of us thought - at times - back then - they had their roles reversed.

Could be that he lost the clubhouse at a certain point. It happened when Terry Collins was the manager.

2112 reacted to UndertheHalo in The bow tie says that the Angels are looking at Joe Maddon
This is the crux of it imo. I think the Angels need to stick with Ausmus for now just because I think that like many teams now, the manager is just a member of the front office executing marching orders that have mostly been predetermined. Ausmus is Epplers guy. They’re connected at the hip. Are the Angels going to let Eppler implement his plan or not ? They’re 1 year into this being entirely Epplers show. Yes, the pressure is on but handicapping the guy doesn’t make sense. Should the Angels do that, I think it’s evidence of more serious problems then bad seasons at the major league level.
The organization needs to be committed to the path they’re on. If they’re not, just blow up the whole thing.

2112 reacted to Jeff Fletcher in Betts for Adell?
That’s basically how it works if you don’t have a farm system and aren’t willing to trade players in their prime for top prospects.
Free agents are, almost by definition, at their peak, about to go downhill. Players you can acquire via trade without giving up top prospects, which the Angels didn’t have, are old, injured or have other flaws.
Everything that’s gone wrong with the Angels comes back to them having a lousy farm system, which had nothing to do with Eppler.

2112 reacted to UndertheHalo in L.A. Times Skaggs illustration: Tasteless?
I don’t get why there’s this thought that there needs to be a brand new discussion about drug abuse. People use drugs. Sometimes when they use drugs they OD and die.
It’s like Tyler Skaggs death has introduced some people to the concept of drug overdoses existing. Fuc*king get it together. Shit like this is embarrassing. Baseball players are actually people that are subject to the same issues that other people deal with. Tyler Skaggs probably encountered far more drug use education shit then the average person. Definitely more drug testing shit. And he still was apparently doing drugs.
We don’t need a new discussion. We don’t need more testing. It would be nice if there was a little bit of good taste and maybe umm, restraint exercised when discussing the story. There’s no cure for the human condition.
