Estevez hasn't exactly been impressive thus far in spring.

I don't think Vegas is on the table. Moving them there would cut the value of the franchise significantly simply based on market potential/population compared to LA/OC. Who knows though, maybe Arte doesn't care so much about the value of the franchise now that he's decided to keep it?

axalar got a reaction from jsnpritchett in WIll the Angels have a new owner before the start of the 2023 season?
Agreed, it is silly. Trust me, I wished I was making up what I had posted, or hoped things would change and he would commit, but obviously didn't work out that way now.

Based on how this offseason has gone, I'd say the Mets are going to buy the Angels.

I believe the others are returning in their same roles but that’s not 100 percent certain.

And he didn’t really say why they’re making a change at AAA but I’ve been led to believe it was performance related.

This is my concern. He only really rates well defensively at 3B, but if he's an everyday player, how do you play both him and Rendon if healthy?

Y’all are going to be so pissed when a quick sale means Arte only sells a portion of the ownership stake and stays in an influential role.

There's absolutely no way anyone can possibly think whatever gap separates Nevin from whatever external candidate we can get who is willing to manage a team with an impending sale is the difference between us making or missing the playoffs in 2023 or keeping Ohtani lmao

axalar reacted to Blarg in OC Register: Jimmy Herget enjoying success leading Angels’ bullpen committee
You really can't see the silly amount of movement on Herget's pitches on TV. I was right behind home plate in the last innings last night and I wonder what kind of game plan a hitter can use. The ball out of his hand seems to change direction twice in the same pitch. Then he throws something straight and they are swinging at where they thought it would change directions to.
It's like he perfected the 84 mph knuckleball, has a curveball that seems to run out of gas and fall to the floor 20 feet from the plate. Then dazzles them with his 90 mph heater that at this point looks like the Ryan Express since everything else was so slow they probably could autograph the ball as it crosses home plate.
To make matters worse the hitters all have to look at this guy on the mound and try not to break out laughing.

axalar reacted to Warfarin in OC Register: Angels’ Taylor Ward on the upswing again after summer slump
    Sure, I think that's reasonable.
I don't mind leaving 1B to Walsh and Thaiss.  I think 1B, generally, should not be too hard to fill/sort out.  But likewise, if they wanted to go out and find a 1B, it likely can be done fairly cheaply.
As for 2B/SS - I do feel they are going to hand the reigns of SS over to Neto sooner rather than later, given that he's already starting in AA.  Even if he's a year away, they likely aren't going to sign a SS, unless they can find someone who will play on a 1 year deal.  2B is certainly an option, and can likewise be filled fairly cheaply.  Jean Segura could be an interesting option.
I do feel this team definitely needs another OF.  Pederson would seem to be a good option, but I'd be willing to gamble on Gallo as well.  He's had a down year, but he's a very good defender who does draw walks and hits HRs.  Pederson would be a better offensive option, but he's just limited to LF.  I'd probably opt for Gallo first, in terms of an upside play, but would be happy with either of them.
Circling back to what I mentioned before, I'd be cool with a lineup such as:  Segura 2B, Trout CF, Ohtani DH, Rendon 3B, Gallo (or Pederson) LF, Ward RF, Walsh 1B, Stassi C, Fletcher SS.  Bench:  some veteran catcher, Rengifo 2B/SS/3B, Thaiss C/1B/3B, Moniak OF.
Given we are unlikely to add much payroll this offseason, that would seemingly be fairly financially doable.  If either Ward or Walsh can recapture some of their pre-injury form, which doesn't seem too far fetched, then that should be a pretty solid lineup.  Within a year's time, I would expect to see Neto and O'Hoppe break their way into the lineup, hopefully fortifying the bottom part of the lineup.

Really, in this market, they should be able to support a star-centric team WITH balance and depth. Just like the Dodgers.
But that’ll take a smart/responsible owner and a few years.
