Reveille1984 got a reaction from Mark68 in Mike Trout back in LF
Trout has honestly been pretty mediocre in both OF positions this year, all things considered.  UZR and a few other metrics confirm this as well, although it has been a somewhat small sample size.  His arm is also ridiculously weak for CF, as we've seen it being taken advantage of by baserunners numerous times this year already.

There's no legitimate argument really for keeping him in CF, other than the opinion that somehow playing CF makes him hit better.  Or that playing him there will keep him happy and make him more likely to sign long-term.

What's bad about it? Now they got their best possible defensive OF out there with Weav pitching.

Pretty sure we've already gone over this ad nauseum.  You trade talent to get talent, it's as simple as that.  Nobody complained about us trading for Dan Haren when it happened.  Now that it's four years later and those guys are panning out, everybody wants to be captain hindsight.

The problem with the positional offensive performance argument is that as far as the Angels as a whole go, it's not really a difference maker.

Obviously the fact that Trout can play CF(and do so well) is a good thing for him individually down the road, as it makes him more attractive than a guy with his bat who can't do that.

But as long as Trout and Bourjos are both in the OF, I don't see how getting a .930 OPS out of center(to use the exec's number) and whatever you want to call Bourjos's OPS out of LF gives the Angels a noticable "competitive advantage" over a .930 OPS out of left and Bourjos's OPS out in CF.

Unless of course, you think Trout is going to go back to sucking if he moves out of CF. Which is total nonsense, as far as I'm concerned.

If people are really stupid enough to believe that Trout is hitting better because he is playing CF.  Then the Angels should put Hamilton and his $125 million contract in CF, because it's obvious RF is affecting his hitting.

On one hand, if it worked, it would have been awesome.

On the other hand, Aybar is mentally retarded.

Yeah... I'm not going to be excited about Weaver until he can hit 88-90 on a regular basis.  Even with his stuff, he won't get far with a mid 80's fastball.

We're a win-now team with a lot of undesirable contracts.  Some people are really dim on this board it seems.  It's like infantile whining children that complain about being bored without putting in effort to actually think of something to do.

How has Dipoto had a chance to deal good to elite, cost-controlled MLB players for top pitching prospects?  Give me even one scenario in his time here where this could have happened.  He made "MLB player for prospect deals" with the Dbacks because he was working for an entirely different organization and he had the luxury of being able to build for the future with little current expectations while giving up good MLB talent.  You even said yourself you "wouldn't trade a gatorade cooler" for any of our players, yet JD is supposed to find a way to get high upside starting pitching?  Get a grip.

This organization is going to need 5+ years to retool the farm and replenish our system, at least.

At least I have Ducks playoff games!

I still watch bits and pieces of pretty much every Angels game (mostly to watch Trout/Trumbo AB's), but its not something I really look forward to or get excited about anymore.  I envy the superfans that can continuously get beat in the head with shitty baseball and still maintain a high level of interest and excitement about it.  It's like getting amped about eating a dry turd sandwhich for lunch every day.  I can think of about a million better things to do than watch uninspired, lazy and fundamentally bad baseball for three hours a night.

The Angels will always be my team, but to me they're like family; I might be stuck with them, but that doesn't mean I have to like them all the time.

Realistically, Dipoto could only do so much to salvage a decent bullpen by picking up free agents.  Good teams save cash and maintain flexibility by developing cheap, cost-controlled bullpen arms that have electric stuff and can miss bats.  We have developed who in our current bullpen that has shown any success... Jepsen?  And even he has sucked most of his time in the bigs.  Downs - FA, Burnett - FA, Frieri - Trade, Madson - FA, Jerome - Reclamation Project.  Kohn has some upside but is coming off TJ surgery.  Richards has a 5.00+ ERA.  The rest of the guys are just shit we're throwing against a wall to see if anything sticks.

If you look at the teams with the best bullpens and highest BP WAR so far, you'll obviously notice they aren't spending big money on their bullpen - Giants, Twins, Rockies, A's, Rangers, Indians, etc.  To blame Dipoto for not constructing a good bullpen is kind of stupid.  When your farm can't develop one lights-out BP arm there's only so much you can do to salvage things.

This isn't make or break time.

The Halos are already broken and unlike last year, there's very little reason to believe that they'll at least partially right the ship. By the end of last year, they were one of the better teams in baseball, but the horrid start doomed them. This year... forget about it.

yeah, I've never understood Scioscia's insistence on Aybar in the leadoff spot.  He has never shown the capacity for it.  When Bourjos went on the DL, Trout should have gone back to leadoff.  And really, I don't think Trout should have ever been moved out of the leadoff spot.  The guy puts up one maybe the best rookie season ever and what do we do the following year - we change his position on the field and in the lineup.
