It is really quite amazing how bad they're doing after that start.
We really can't have nice things, can we?

It’s only fair to judge Perry based on the information we had at the time of signings and our needs. I am happy with all the signings because I thought he did well with the prices given the market and our desperation for good pitching.

I expect that entire list to more or less bounce back to expected levels as the season goes along. Syndergaard is kind of worrisome because his strikeout rate is Jered Weaver level, he’s just not missing any bats. But everyone on this board knew we were taking on a risk with upside with him. I can’t blame Perry in hindsight, he did a good job.

I don't fault Joe on this one. With the number of his unavailable, he's mixing and matching the best he can at the moment. But as IP said, this is pretty standard RP volatility.
Long run, I think Tepera, Loup and Bradley will be fine. Ortega too.
It's just a rough stretch that's likely cost them 5 or so wins. It's luck driven too. Typically you'll have one or two RP at a time working through things which might cost you a win or two. When over half your bullpen craps the comforter at once, and they all do it in close games, this is the result.
Bad luck and bad timing. Standard for most Angel teams.

Right now, he’s the FIFTH best starter, only because of waiting to see if Detmers continues to progress.
Suarez may occasionally blow hitters away.   But he’s too susceptible to BBs and HRs.

I'm hoping the Angels can match what my other favorite team (Michigan) did in Football this year. I fully expected the Wolverines to go 5-7, maybe 6-6. I was just so DONE with that program. Even after they went 4-0 and had a fairly easy stretch, I thought they would find a way to blow a couple of games they shouldn't.

Eventually, though, when they kept winning games I kept believing more and more until I realized the season was going to be special. It wasn't "National Championship" special, obviously, but it did a lot to restore my faith in a program that I thought was a new coach (or two) and 5-ish years away from even having a shot at maybe beating our rival.

The Angels off season surprised me. I said that the Angels needed to get 7 pitchers if they were serious about competing (3 starters and 4 relievers).... and they damn near did it. Sure, I would have LOVED one more solid starter (I half-suspect we still might get one before the trade deadline) and a more stable option at SS, but I really want to give the season a month before I really throw in the towel. We are three swings away from Trout/Ohtani/Rendon waking up their bats, and if our starters can be as solid as they were last week (save for Detmers)... we might have something. It's only a might, but it's still there.

On paper, this should be the best Angels bullpen in nearly a decade, or perhaps even going as far back as 2009.

I, for one, won’t be shedding any tears watching the A’s get rid of Matt Chapman and Matt Olson, both who have crushed Angel pitching for years.
Now if they could just get rid of Ramon Laureano, I’d be really happy.

I agree. Plus unless we are talking about the last several games of the William's season when the anticipation was high, the DiMaggio streak would have been non stop excitment.

I’m tired of these damn players wanting more and more money. I wish they could be out here and making 2,000 dollars a month and see how it feels. There are people out here that can’t afford to by things they need or want and can’t have unlike these little crying bitches. They have a nice mansion like house with theater in them, bowling, tennis and basketball court. They have like 3 cars Lamborghini and other expensive cars and they cry like they need more money. They need a cap and stop this crap where trams can’t afford to get great players.

You do realize the buying power of the lowest paid MLB player is about 6 times your buying power? None of these players are facing poverty once they hit the majors. If they last 3-5 years they probably make what you do in a lifetime. Fletcher, in the short time he has been a full time player has banked about $3 million dollars in 4 seasons and his current contract will net him around $22.5. Juan Lagares bounced around, no where near a top tier player, has amassed over $23 million hitting below league average.
So don't talk about not meeting inflation when their salaries have nothing to do with cost of living indexes.

At least the Halos FINALLY for the first time in TEN years signed a solid pitcher to more than a 2 year contract.
Now do that with a starter (Stroman), and the pitching should finally be acceptable for the first time since the 2015 season?

I like your way of characterizing the various GMs, both their strengths and weaknesses. And yes, with Perry it is too soon to tell. I think we'll need to see two full seasons plus his response to both. So right now we're exactly halfway in our "Judgement of Perry Window." A year plus a month or two from now should give us a better sense of him.
As for Arte, with the above said, there's no denying that he still has a penchant to stick his nose into baseball operations, with generally poor--if not devastating--results. As I see it, the Angels made three terrible moves in 2011-13 that absolutely crippled the team for the next decade: Wells, Pujols, and Hamilton. We can blame Wells on Reagins, but Pujols and Hamilton are on Arte. Sure, maybe Dipoto should have known more or argued against those signings, but from everything we've heard, it was Arte who pushed those two.
That said, Hamilton was in 2013, and everything since then has been guided by the GMs, to the best of my knowledge. But there also haven't been any albatrosses, with the exception of the "semi-albatross" Upton, or if Rendon doesn't regain his form. But Dipoto's gutting and neglect of the farm, the implosion of the young rotation in the mid-2010s and Eppler's inability to assess pitching talent are not on Arte. But we can't separate Arte's crippling of the team in 2012-13 from everything that came after.

It was probably a hip labral injury which is more serious that a hamstring strain. They might not wanted to relay that information until they knee conservative care would not be effective. A labral injury can refer pain to the ischial tuberosity region, which mimics as a hamstring injury.
