If you can get a few guys on the cheap absolutely.  I should have made it clear I meant spending at the high end of the FA RP pool.  The least volatile RPs end up as closers more often than not..   It's that volatility that makes middle RPs sketchy FA bets.
People didn't like the cavalcade of misfits that Eppler brought in to try to fill gaps RP wise, but it's kind of hilarious that his biggest goof was chasing a former closer who was trying to reinvent himself.

I mean, if you aren't spending a bunch, there is a certain logic to signing 3 or even 4 guys on the cheap--- if you only have one or two spots to fill. If you need three or four guys then you probably need to go back in time and rethink your approach to pitching.

The Angels will not only make the playoffs,  they'll also win the World Series, the Super Bowl, the Stanley Cup and sweep the Oscars.  The only playoffs they'll miss is the NBA's.

As good Ward has played, you really think he should have been depth?
Marsh is average players.  How often do we have below average guys playing?

ScruffytheJanitor reacted to Angelsjunky in Fangraphs on Noah Syndergaard
Well, I'd say he's a 3 WAR pitcher at this point. 0.8 WAR through 9 starts and 46.1 IP = about 3 WAR in 150+ IP (and he probably won't pitch that many).
Part of the problem is the six-man rotation. Syndergaard is worth less to the Angels than he might be to another team. And both his name and the weakness of next year's free agent class increases his price tag somewhat.
But if we're talking a #3 starter entering his age 30 season, and if he stays healthy for all of 2022, then I'm guessing someone will offer him 4 years, maybe $20M per year (4/$80M). Plus or minus a year and a few million (maybe, someone could offer him 3/$65M or 5/$90M).
The point being, I don't think the Angels sign him - and I certainly hope they don't. In fact, I'd rather see them extend Lorenzen for probably less money. But both are obviously trade candidates if they're below .500 at the ASB.
Next year's rotation is a bit lean, of course: Ohtani, Sandoval, and Detmers are virtual locks. Then you have Canning and Suarez, and possible prospects like Silseth, Bachman, and Bush, and even Erla, Kerry, Olthoff, Crow, and Seminaris.
But after the three locks, I see them filling 1 or maybe 2 spots with younger pitchers, and thus the Angels will need to sign 1 or 2 starters, and the crop is a lot worse than last offseason (they should have listened to me and gone after Gausman and/or Rodon), with Joe Musgrove probably the top pitcher.

Hard pass on Price, unless the Dodgers pick up like 14 of that 16 mil lol.  And even then, I am not sure Price is better than any of our SP options.  I would rather just see Diaz and Suarez pitch in that 6th spot.

Leave it to the two Chicago teams to screw things up. Otherwise, three cities could be leading every division in MLB.
P.S. Technically, the Angel's are located in LA only because ownership doesn't know where Orange County ends and LA's trashy county begins.

I'm sure this has been said already. I'm not doubting the testimony of the woman, I just think MLB wouldn't have been nearly as punitive toward Bauer if he hadn't outed them in regards to sticky stuff, then flaunt it in their faces when he chose to start using it as well.

And the amount he could reasonably sue for is massive. A quarter bill isn't unreasonable. Doubt he would've made that much more in his career, but you could certainly make an argument this whole thing has cost him that much in potential earnings.

Obviously this seems ridiculous at first glance. And I hope Bauer's lawyers get to eat MLB ass-first. I do have a few clarifying questions for the AW Labor Law Pro's though. Looking at you @cals
    1. Does MLB need a definitive, legally sound reason to suspend Bauer? Like are they doing this because they can interpret their code of conduct policies however they choose and basically suspend anybody they think has done something "bad" without having to legally defend that decision? Another hypothetical example being like a current player going on an expletive-laden rant about their ex-wife or something in a Youtube video. Not technically illegal or punishable, but could MLB be like, "Nah, we're suspending this asshole"?
    2. If a judge (or some similar entity) determined that Bauer was suspended not because he did anything wrong from a criminal perspective, but simply because the league found his sexual tastes to be unpalatable to their brand, could one make an argument that he was being discriminated against on the basis of sex? Like in the protected class sexual orientation sort of way. Like could being a kinky dude be part of one's orientation, and thus not discriminate-against-able?

What's weird is that I like alot of the elements of this.... they are all just slammed together and it looks like a Royals jersey you'd by from Wish.  I think it would be about 100% better if they removed one or both of the white stripes from the sleves.

You gotta think Peguero and Buttry are going to be brought up -- hopefully soon. Probably going to be a few weeks after the roster cut down. You'd have to think Warren gets sent down this weekend.

Brendon Davis looking more and more like he was a helium guy last year...    Might be weather related as his numbers in night games are atrocious but, he's struggled mightily vs RHPs as well.  The positives, his walk rate is up and his K rate is down but he's also older and plate discipline has always been considered a veteran "skill".
I'm always hesitant to buy into guys that show no discernable improvement in their underlying skill sets or predictive data.  He started last year in High A, where he was vastly more experienced than the opposition, it was more of the same in AA and then AAA saw him pull out a .385 BABIP which just wasn't the norm for him.  It's at 285 right now which tracks better with his career.
Not saying he can't still be useful or take another step, but last years uptick was pretty superficial beyond the typical counting/triple slash stats.

They always had at least twice as many Latin American scouts as they did US scouts, but 8 really was low point domestically and not a made up narrative driven number.
Only reason it took them as long as it did to get the overall numbers back up was the timing of Minasian's hiring.  Scout contracts commonly run out before the MLB season does and the free for all to hire guys happens really quickly after a season ends.  Media guys ran with the low hanging fruit while piling on but it was a real figure.
Also why you can never put the initial draft under a new hire GM on the new guy, more often than not it's all the previous regimes guys who were still under contract.
