The Angels are interested in every starting pitcher under control who doesn’t suck, and probably a couple who do. 

My point is that my conversation went beyond “hey you’re from OC,” which is why I am confident that he’s interested in playing for the Angels.

No. This team isn't good enough. Sure, if someone offers a good pitcher and will take fringe prospects, go for it. But don't trade away anyone who will be part of the next Angels team that will actually be good.
Being good in 2020 and really good in 2021 is more important than maybe making the wildcard this year. 

It's pretty simple....they just play the best they can for as long as they can and they only make trades that can help their chances to win in 2020/2021 as well as 2019.  
Since the Angels have plans past this season, they are unlikely to move any key MLB pieces which means any trade that does happen to help the team this year and beyond will involve prospects.  The play is still for 2020 but you don't want to send the message to your team that you don't believe in them when they've play so well recently.

No Syndergaard please. he's been hurt to much the last few years. Huge risk if you ask me, which we can't afford. If we trade Marsh, Barra and Thiass and Noah ends up hurt, we suck pitching wise again and farm back to where it was a couple of years ago. Lose, lose, situation.

Ironic that Kole and the team are getting hot just before the deadline.
Kind of tends to make you overvalue what you have. And the optimism diminishes the negatives that precededed it.
Eppler needs to remain calm, cool, collected. And evaluate the present as well as the future. And not get either too carried away in either direction. 
He should be more passive than proactive, and let other teams initiate any trade talks. As it stands, with Kole remaining around the same pace the rest of the year the Angels have a slim, but not impossible shot at the WC. 
Kole is a fan favorite, a steady franchise asset, and has not reached the critical curve of age deterioration. As such he should either bring back equivalent talent in a trade or still remain oroductive. His contract is pretty much fair value if you project 25 homers and doubles, strong defense and solid team presence. Probably of more value to the Angels at that price than elsewhere because he is a known commodity and likely to remain in a comfort zone.
It"s tempting to think he could bring in a juicy return, and if so, then he is tradeable. But if the deal isn't stacked in the Angels favor, then play out the season, see how it goes and reconsider the options for the future.
Ideally I'd like Kole for two more years beyond now. At a somewhat more team friendly number. Sacrifice of some money for term security. It would make Adell's entry less pressurized and allow for experimentation at different positions. 
Tough call, but I still am sentimental for loyalty, even if it brings more risks.

I don’t know about that. Where else do you think they’d need to spend more than $4-5M? And they are going to have a lot of spots occupied by guys making less than $1M.
The reason that they’ve waited to go big on free agents is that you can’t do it until you have a lot of homegrown (cheap) players to fill around them. Last year they needed 2 starters so they spent $20M on Cahill/Harvey. If they have more young guys who are ready, and they only need one FA, that’s $20M for Cole. 
Tragically, losing Skaggs alters the equation, but they are gaining Ohtani for $700K or so. Heaney will make $4-5M. Every other guy on the SP depth chart will make less than $2M, and most less than $1M.
Cole, Ohtani, Heaney, Canning, Barría, Suarez, Peña is a good start. 
You don’t need 5 studs to be a good team. If you have 3 who are better than average and stay healthy, and then can rotate around and get 5 innings and 2-3 runs from the other spots, you’ll be good.

Also, there was a lot of interest in Wilson Ramos last offseason - completely different skill set from Grandal, but age caught up with him this year and now the Mets can’t seem to even pawn him off to anyone. 
Multi-year deals for catchers over 30 seems too risky. We need that cash more for pitching.

At this point why not just Put; Barrria, Suarez, Trop and Jc in the rotation and see what they can do.
Canning, JC, Barria, Suarez and Trop/Pena. when heaney is good to go, switch him out with who ever sucks.
Let's just see how thses guys do without having to go back and forth between Mlbanf AAA.

If they trade Calhoun, I just hope RF doesn't become the blackhole that 2B did when they traded Howie.  

His option is for $14M ... you’re not going to pick it up just to trade him. If you’re going to trade him then you do it before the deadline. 
The team should be playoff bound next season. Calhoun can be a big part of that ... trading him weakens the team imo. I would start the season with Jo Adell as your fourth outfielder if he’s ready. 
I wouldn’t pick up Calhoun’s $14M option but renegotiate for a lesser amount $8-10M. If he doesn’t sign (I think he will) then you throw him his $1M and move on.

I think with Canning coming on board and with Sandoval’s quick rise, Angels don’t need to make a trade such as this. And I really think (hope) Eppler goes after Cole in the off-season. Cole, Ohtani, Canning, Skaggs, and Heaney, Angels would be set.
