itsKnoppUitsme reacted to jshep in I Kohn't take this anymore
My favorite part of the stadium experience tonight was discovering that every reliever has their own highlight reel with music now.
I'm imagining a bright eyed intern coming into the office the first day and being told
"Hey, so welcome aboard. First, I need you to piece together a Michael Kohn highlight reel."
and all that joy just draining out of the poor kid's face.

If Morales is still available in June, I'd love to have him back.

Weaver didn't lose last night's game. Scioscia did. It is early in the season and starting pitchers like Weaver should not be expected to go as many innings as later in the year. Of course, stubborn Scioscia was oblivious to Weaver tiring in the 6th inning and should have pulled him after that second walk. But no, Scioscia didn't care if Weaver was tired and left him in so Seattle could tie the game. My gosh, a lead against Hernandez was huge and should have been protected at all costs. But no, Scioscia didn't care if Weaver had tired. Then instead of pulling him at the end of the inning after great defense saved a run, Scioscia throws an obviously tired Weaver back out so Seattle could take the lead before bringing in the bullpen. I can't remember worse Manager decisions but then last year is a long time in the past.
Also, the Angels seem to make two bad acquisitions every year. Two years ago it was Burnett and Madsen. Last year it was Hamilton and Blanton. This year is would appear to be Freese and the DH, Ibanez. It makes me sick ...
p.s. Did the injury to Don Baylor remind you of another early injury in the past which seemed to jinx a season? (Mo Vaughn)

I would rather watch Weaver puke up his lunch in the locker room than watch this blowpen puke up another game on the field again. That ninth inning was brutal.

How about Morales Vaughn?

itsKnoppUitsme reacted to gotbeer in Are the playoffs enough?
No. World Series Championship is the only goal. No one remembers second place. But it's 12 years later, and people still remember 2002.
Heck, the Dodgers main draw for their TV station is something that happened 26 years ago. And something that the station will never show, a WS.

itsKnoppUitsme reacted to Jim in Joe Blanton released!
The FO plans went perfectly. They gave an 8.5 million dollar player a chance to show he wasn't a waste of time. He couldn't do that so they cut bait and turned the page. Good for us.

itsKnoppUitsme reacted to Stradling in Joe Blanton released!
I did love what Jerry said about Blanton at Fan Fest. He said Joe had to perform to make the team, but that's not the part I liked. He also said that Joe had a bad baseball season, that doesn't make him an evil person. That's the part I liked. I know we talk about hate and sports hate on here. I truly think that some fans on here took it personal when he performed poorly. It went beyond sports hate. I know we aren't suppose to feel bad for millionaires (I guess), but whenever a career ends there is sadness there, regardless of how poorly he performed. There will come a time when all of us become less productive than we once were and we will have to step aside, that won't be enjoyable for us either.

Plan A: "Hey Joe, why don't you move to the other side of the rubber and see if that helps."
Plan B: "Hey Joe, why don't you move a little further and see if that helps. No, that's okay, just keep moving and we'll tell you when to stop."

itsKnoppUitsme reacted to Docwaukee in Angels trade Romine to Detroit for LHP Jose Alvarez
I wonder if Det actually called about Aybar and ended up with Romine. Anyway.
It would be pretty unusual for a 24yo to have that good of a year in AAA and not be able to provide capable production at the major league level. Plenty of LHers have success at the major league level without throwing hard. His AAA peripherals corroborate that he's got good command and an out pitch. If this guy even spends 2-3 years in the rotation as a 4/5, it's probably a huge win for the Halos.

itsKnoppUitsme reacted to Inside Pitch in Angels trade Romine to Detroit for LHP Jose Alvarez
So, Dipoto took a guy he wasn't keeping and turned him into something of extreme need and value to this franchise. Chances are this trade never happens if Iglesias doesn't go down -- props to JD for seeing an opportunity and jumping on it.
Tremendous move.

I think Ron Washington's pregame instructions were something like this. "Now we all know we want to face Blanton during the regular season so do your best to make this guy look like Greg Maddux in his prime today."

GEEZ - it's just great to have Halos baseball back on the air -- enjoy seeing the game on Prime Ticket......
great to see Don Baylor back in a Halo's uni and in the Angels dug out.........
hopefully this rubs off on the 2014 Halos -- but teams that Don Baylor was on always seemed to win........
I recall that later in his career he was in, I think, the World Series, three years in a row with three different teams........didn't always win it all but always seemed to in a position to do so.
I'd settle for that with the 2014 Halos........
Welcome back, Don Baylor -- still had one of the best all time single seasons overall stat wise in Halos history......
