Let's hope Freese is better than the last position player we landed from St. Louis. The anchor set from that big splash looks likely to land on the sea floor a whole lot earlier than anticipated.

Not trying to emulate YoT, but our St Louis adoptees were both among the three Angels that went hitless yesterday.  I hope that this is just a small sample size matter as they both looked good in yesterday's game.

The Freese of 2013 would be a disaster - he was a replacement level player (0.3 WAR). I think the Angels would be "perfectly happy" with something below 2012, but not that much below. 2 WAR would be passable, but 3+ WAR would be "perfectly happy."

I am hoping that 2013 was a bit of a hangover year for him. In 2012 he was treated like golden boy.  That wore off the next year and was also coupled with injury to result in a sub par season. 

 

The key is making sure he's healthy so he can play solid defense.  He dropped 2 WAR both offensively and defensively last year and with a bit better offense and average defense this year, he's suddenly back to being a 2.0-3.0 WAR player which is fine.

So exactly how is Cardinal virtue different than Angel virtue?  Besides the spiritual obvious that Cardinals prefer little boys and Angels come from heaven.  And the baseball virtue that the Cardinals gave a lot of money to a convicted PED user.

Freese wasn't very good last year. I certainly hope they would want more production.

Somewhere between 2012 and 2013 would be great.
