  1. IMO mental disease, horrible reactions to negative experiences, drugs, and the occasional act of pure evil.
  2. $2:58 here in KCMO. Seems a bit high given that this is usually one of the cheapest places in the country, and apparently many areas are under $2 now.
  3. I'll never watch it. I don't need to see it. I know what happened, and anything more is a bit pornigraphic in the worst way. There was a video linked to on this site (at least a few years back) that showed an Olympic luge participant dying in an accident during his practice run. I watched it. I felt horribly guilty about it immediately. That cured me of ever wanting to see such things again. I just felt terrible for watching someone with a loving group of friends and family (presumably) die while I was just browsing around on my lunch break.
  4. Kind of my opinion. Douchey for sure, and possibly offensive to some, but not exactly surprising or upsetting to me. It turns out that 18-22 year old males behave like 18-22 year old males.
  5. There's actually a street in Riverside called Wong Way. It's like 100 yards long and connects two one way streets (IIRC). I always found that hilarious as a kid. Like it was some city planner quietly sneaking a joke in before he left the office.
  6. I've watched the Blue Angels perform each of the last two days. Just awesome.
  7. I always wonder how the whole George Zimmerman saga would have went (not just the Trayvon Martin trial, but all the things since) if his last name was Pena or Henriquez.
  8. We're all socialists to some extent.
  9. My dad is an interesting guy. He's worn a lot of different hats in his life, but was always a good, loving father that wanted to engage with all of his kids on a deep level. He was born and raised in Hawaiin Gardens and still carries a lot of that attitude with him I think. He played piano and trumpet in the Air Force and is a really phenomenal jazz piano player to this day. He also spent several years of his life playing pool for a living. For most of the time I was growing up though, he was a boiler mechanic. One funny story from that era: The shop he worked for used to pick one Saturday a year to charter a fishing boat out of Newport. It was a kind of employee appreciation/bring your kids out for the day thing. One year when I was about seven, we went out on the boat and had a great time. When we got back, my dad's work truck had been towed. He called the towing company and they told him he couldn't get his truck back until Monday (which means three days of fees as well). This didn't sit well with my dad, and we just happened to be with a bunch of guys with some pretty heavy tools at their disposal. Long story short, cutting torches are awesome.
  10. Tank seems to be an expert on the physics of dead cat propulsion... Interesting.
  11. The Wire definitely had some nudity. It just wasn't the typical hot 22 year old chick nudity.
  12. Coming into this late, so forgive me if I'm rehashing points that have already been made. In my experience though, nothing beats a good (major conference) college football game, especially if it's a close game/rivalry thing. I know I'm biased, but some of my favorite sporting events ever were witnessed from the student section at KSU games. The only baseball environment I ever saw that came close (and I get that the crowd dynamics/nature of baseball is an entirely different thing) was game 6 of the '02 series.
  13. Google Fiber. Just move to one of about nine cities nowhere near SoCal, pay $70/month, and you're set.
  14. All of the KC fans in my office agree. They think they gave up too much.
  15. So, um, DeGrom's stuff is f#%^ing ridiculous.
  16. He's not as far off as you might think. Bonds' OPS+ from 2000-2004 averaged out at 242. Harper this year, 223. So, maybe he's not quite up to snuff with Bonds, but he's close. .343/.471/.709 is pretty sick in today's game.
  17. True. I'd still rather have Trout overall, but Harper is doing some peak Bonds type of stuff this year.
  18. Yeah, I think that's fair. There seem to be a lot of loose ends just out there in the ether right now. I'm hoping they can make it all work. And while last season was character heavy, it seems like the plot was much more of a focus than it is so far this season. But I just have to have faith considering how well they put it together last season. We'll just have to wait and see.
  19. It is comparatively lacking right now, but there's still a ton of potential. The next two episodes should be intriguing. Seemed like the first season really picked up in episode 4 and 5 (i.e. The crazy intense, long as hell tracking shot).
  20. That DA sounds like an unredeemable POS. Hopefully the kid rejects the plea deal and the judge has the decency to just throw the case out. I've done the same thing this kid did before. Due to darkness combined with a narrow shoulder on a highway, I waited for the next exit to pull over (maybe 1.5-2miles). When the officer finally approached me, she asked why it took me so long to pull over and I explained that I thought it'd be safer for both of us if I waited for an exit. She accepted that explanation and we moved on in a perfectly civil manner. So yeah, while the DA is the biggest douche here, I think it's safe to say the cops got a little over-zealous as well (especially considering there is a known issue involving fake cops pulling people over in the area).
  21. A healthy Pujols for a few more years would be massively helpful. I'd like to hope for a Hank Aaron-esque ending to his career. Hank was just out of this world awesome for the first 14-ish years of his career, really good but not quite the same for the next 6 or 7 years (with a few flashes of greatness again), then pretty mediocre for the last two. Basically, if we can get about 4 more years of .260-70/.330-50/.500-50 Pujols with 30-35 HRs, I'll call it a win. Not necessarily what we hoped for when he first put ink to paper, but it's a pretty solid way to finish up a HOF career.
  22. Just a few guys being good humans in a dangerous situation. Good to see, but I imagine about anybody would've reacted that way.
  23. Some people just call that routine maintenance. Not enough.
