  1. I don’t think that’s how drafts work. You have to get your head shaved and go to basic training first, and then someone has to try to make Blarg a communist…. And then all bets are off.
  2. I keep coming back to this thread every couple weeks hoping for more reviews and discussion. So much interesting stuff has come out in the last few months, yet I hear virtually nothing from all of you. I need you guys to get it together. K, thanks.
  3. This is where the path to the plate rule sucks. In years past that path would and should have been blocked.
  4. Yeah, I don’t get why Hicks is getting so many ABs. Like let’s say he gets it together and has a good year by Aaron Hicks standards. What is that? A .750 OPS at the very best? I’d much rather give Adell consistent ABs and find out if he’s ever gonna be a legit major league starter.
  5. I hope this is a sign of Detmers developing into a true front of rotation guy rather than just a couple good starts. He was great tonight. He put his fastball where he needed to and the change and curve were both fantastic. If he can do that consistently we might have something special on our hands.
  6. I’ve seen several that seemed to be clearly overturnable on replay that ended up being upheld in years past. That one was close enough that I thought they’d side with the ump. Glad they seem to be doing a better job with their standard to overturn this year.
  7. I think the best possible season for Adell is significantly better than the best possible season for Hicks.
  8. This one was much closer. Kinda surprised they overturned it.
  9. As they should. It’s pretty freaking odd to go back and change that six days after the fact.
  10. That’s a perfect throw there. Anywhere else he’s safe.
  11. There’s a show on the Smithsonian Channel (or something like it) called Disasters at Sea. Pretty good actually. But the first half of each episode is sort of the story of a modern maritime disaster, then the second half is a deeper investigation into what exactly caused it. I’d say failure to adequately address maintenance needs ends up being the cause somewhere around two thirds of the time, followed by (and sometimes in conjunction with) human error. After that comes inherent design flaws, and way way way at the bottom of the list is completely unforeseeable happenstance. Basically, almost all of these boil down to companies trying to cut corners or someone screwing up at their job.
  12. The area where the Royals play now is way sketchier than downtown. East of Troost is and always has been a shithole, but anywhere west of Troost and between 435 and the river is perfectly fine day to day, and has been for ten years. It’s only when people from the east side of town (or KCK) show up en masse for events (like today, or summer weekend nights in Westport) that shit like this happens. I’d bet a large sum of money the shooters from today have home addresses either east of Troost or somewhere in Wyandotte County. As soon as I heard there were multiple people involved I was pretty sure of that.
  13. Everybody Wants Some is a solid under the radar baseball movie.
  14. Two episodes in to Masters of the Air and it’s really good. The flight/aerial combat scenes are really well done. Definitely relays the sheer terror of flying in one of those bombing raids.
  15. The first ten minutes or so of that movie is absolutely masterful. One of the better heist/action sequences ever made.
  16. Sure, there’s more involved in evaluating the situation/decision in the moment, but the trade success/fail threshold is way lower than we’d all like to think.
  17. As long as you’re getting more value than you’re likely to get out of a 61st overall pick, it’s a win
  18. Must be hard for the dudes at BJsWin to contain their excitement. I’m sure that place is gonna erupt once the news is confirmed.
  19. The new season of Fargo is really really good so far. Some awesome casting
