  1. I watched Peaky Blinders because of the praise it got in this thread as well. And yeah, it's just awesome. I love the setting (both time and place), the acting, and the story itself. And the soundtrack is great. Can't wait for season 3 to show up.
  2. Here's a quick little tutorial. I remember reading the original story when it came out (one of the most well-written articles I've ever seen). Short story though, you just need some free time and a laptop. It also doesn't hurt to do copious amounts of weed and blow.http://www.rollingstone.com/culture/news/the-complete-story-of-the-300-million-stoner-arms-dealers-20150610
  3. Tornado sirens just went off for the first time this year. I've responded by defiantly drinking a beer on my porch.
  4. I did some more digging on the flag history thing, and here's what I found: Confederate flags are super confusing really, because there were a ton of them. I was slightly wrong in my earlier post... While the Army of Northern Virginia did use a square version of what South Carolina is currently flying above its capitol, Tank is right in that the rectangular version was a naval flag (one of a few different naval flags as well). That same naval flag was also used by the Army of Tennessee, because apparently the CSA was a freaking tech start up where nobody could decide on a uniform logo. Keeping that theme alive, the one Tank posted above was the first Confederate flag, but apparently it changed a couple more times during the war. You could argue that the square version of the thing flying above the capitol in Charlseton was the CSA flag for a few weeks in 1865, but only because the Army of Northern Virginia was the only remnant of the CSA at that point.
  5. That's a good, reasonable explanation of a Christian viewpoint. There may be others within the Christian faith as well, I don't really know. And if that is what you believe, great. It makes sense as a matter of doctrine. Where I differ (I think we differ here) is that I just don't believe that should hold any weight in American law.
  6. That top headline is from the University of Kansas student newspaper. I would say it's the second worst student newspaper in the state of Kansas.
  7. Sounds like you just ran into the world's worst car salesman. I've done that for a living in the past, and while there are tough days and tough customers, if somebody comes in and tells a salesman that, then leaves without buying a vehicle (assuming there aren't major credit issues and the customer isn't insane) the salesman's job is often in jeopardy.
  8. I get what you're trying to say, but "bred" is the wrong term. My eye color was bred into me. My bone structure was bred into me. My belief system? Not so much. Of course, being born to two parents of the same faith likely increases the odds of a child also adopting that faith, but there's some free will involved along the way.
  9. I'm with you there. Churches shouldn't be forced into offering their facilities to anybody really. I don't care if it's because the couple is homosexual, they've lived together before marriage, they're too short, or they wear too much body spray. I believe church leadership should be able to choose which events they want to hold and which ones they don't.
  10. If I had to guess, he's just not that good. He heard you say the car you wanted was overpriced by 2k, and because of their no-haggle policy, he probably thought the whole thing would be a waste of his time. That being said, driving around the lot and just pointing out cars is a pretty horrible tactic if you want to build interest in a car. And not offering a test drive is pretty bad as well. Also, did he really not say ANYTHING when you got back inside? Anyhow, I think there are only two possibilities. He's either new and very bad at his job, or he wanted to get rid of you (because he didn't think you would buy today) without looking too terrible in front of his boss. If the latter is true, I'm sure he went to his boss afterward and told them you didn't really want to look at anything or test drive anything, but did want to haggle over price.
  11. There's also the whole issue of South Carolina never using that flag during the Civil War. The flag we typically refer to as the Confederate flag is something pretty similar to the flag used in battle by the Army of Northern Virginia (theirs were square though).
  12. Your marriage may be validated by God based upon a ceremony performed according to the standards of your religion, but you still need to get a license from the courthouse before the state accepts it. This isn't about gaining the right to have a union accepted by God, but rather the government.
  13. i don't see what your point is, Brandon. None of the things you mentioned are real threats here or something that can be vaccinated against.
  14. I'll back you guys on Savannah and Crystal. Brooke and Madison seem to never miss either.
  15. The SCOTUS doesn't make laws, they simply review them. Our system isn't perfect, but it's good to have a group of people that are experts on the Constitution (and don't have to worry about re-election) make sure legislators (who aren't necessarily experts on the Constitution, but do care about re-election) don't get out of hand.
  16. I'm all for vaccinations just being free for anyone that can't afford to get their children vaccinated. But for those that are anti-vaccine and complain that they can't afford private school, I don't have any sympathy.
  17. It's not being forced. It's just a matter of the government saying if you'd like access to this public service (free education) you must have your children vaccinated. If you really don't want to do that though, it's fine. Just take them to a private school or teach them at home.
  18. Any law "forces" people to do things, possibly against their will. Some laws "force" people to do one thing in order to do another. This isn't a new concept or a bad one. If people don't want to vaccinate their kids, then they can have their children educated outside of the public school system. it's a matter of choice. Some might even say that they're free to make their own decision.
  19. Anything James Brown, Tower of Power, JJ Grey&Mofro. I love my funk.
  20. It just never stops raining here. Sure, it gets to 95 during the day, but as soon as the sun goes down it gets ugly.
  21. I've used it in Costa Rica and Tempe. Great deals with no issues whatsoever either time. But do your research. Look at pictures. Talk through any questions or concerns you have with the person you're renting from. Get an idea of the check in/check out procedure. In short, just be thorough and trust your judgment and you'll more than likely have a great experience.
  22. But why? Just curious as to the reasoning.
  23. Howie is still the better player (I believe we're all familiar with his streakiness), but I've been pleasantly surprised by Johnny G. Dude was a second round pick, so someone definitely thought well of his ability. Hopefully getting an extended chance up here allows him to prove his worth.
  24. Pedro is still the best pitcher I've ever seen. He had a shorter peak than some, but I'd take '97-'01 Pedro over anybody I've ever seen.
