  1. My understanding is that the police told them about this potentially being bad news beforehand. Management then brushed it off, though they did allow for a significant police presence. Either way, they still allowed other non-involved customers to enter into what they knew was a potentially violent situation. So yeah, I hope the individual franchise/management are punished to the fullest extent.
  2. Allowing major prospects to work/live in San Bernardino seems like a terrible idea from a risk/reward standpoint.
  3. That's just a sad reminder that terrible things can randomly happen to people.
  4. I think Barry's right on this one (as much as I dislike him), but I also think he has very little chance of winning this. Individual teams can just say that his reputation preceded him, and while he may have helped to improve their team, he may have also alienated the fans that drive the team's long term revenue stream. So, individual team A just claims it was a sound business decision to avoid Bonds, and the fact that 29 teams also independently came to that conclusion just reinforces the strength of the argument.
  5. That's all good man. Probably just taking the playfulness a bit too far. Best not to let it become a media thing. Let them take care of it in-house and move on. I'm sure you don't want to pry, and it seems like a situation where that's proper (meaning you owe nothing to the fans or the team on something that trivial).
  6. Had to be Aybar right? But that was the most awkward ending to a post game interview I've ever seen. Weaver effectively said, "I'm gonna go take care of a few things. Bye."
  7. He might fall into the class of "Overlooked guys that put up solid minor league numbers and never got a real shot with a major league team". I know he was a second round pick, but he still never got a long term shot at a starting job in the majors. He's been given that opportunity now, and he's taking advantage of it while also showing an intense fire starter personality, a la Eckstein. Can't fault the guy for capitalizing on a good opportunity.
  8. It doesn't matter. There's just never a bad time for In n Out. Context means nothing.
  9. Interesting interview with David Simon, creator of The Wire, published today. Gets to the roots of some issues between the people of Baltimore and the police that go back more than a generation. http://www.vice.com/read/david-simon-talks-about-where-the-baltimore-police-went-wrong-429
  10. Correct. I did customer service for AT&T Wireless for awhile in college. To say we weren't properly trained is an understatement. We were pretty much told to go out on the floor and figure it out. We often weren't given the proper tools or authority to actually help customers as well.
  11. $2.29 in KC today because everything is cheaper in Missouri. I live about two miles from the Kansas border where it's $2.49-59. Not good for stations on that side of the line.
  12. I'm just glad Cole Hauser is gonna get some work out of this.
  13. Gotta go with Buckfast man. It's the Thunderbird of Scotland, yet really popular.
  14. Agreed. They were a solid team last year that got hot at the right time. They're a better all around team this year than they were in 2014. I don't know if they'll be THE best team in the AL this year, but I think 90 to 95 wins is very possible.
  15. it seems like City of God has been mentioned quite a bit here, so I finally watched it tonight. And yeah, that's just a freaking excellent movie, and even more so when you realize it was made thirteen years ago. Really well shot and edited and told a totally enthralling story. I'm bothered that I didn't see this earlier and will probably be that annoying guy evangelizing this movie to my friends for the next few weeks.
  16. I disagree with bunting to move a runner from first to second in general. It's even worse when you've got your best hitter coming up after the bunt. Really, the only situations in which I'm comfortable with bunting (outside of some NL pitcher batting .081) are with a runner on second and nobody out, the occasional squeeze play, and the Aybar-esque bunt for a base hit when you think the defense is looking a bit too relaxed.
  17. 25th Hour gets better every time I see it. I think it's pretty underrated in general.
  18. My brother and I forced six of our family members to watch that video last weekend. It was one of my favorite moments ever.
  19. That stuff just happens out here man. You might not see a tornado every year, but chances are that there'll be at least one within 10 or 15 miles of you a couple times a year. And you're certain to see some truly apocalyptic storms at least a few times a year, with a good solid thunderstorm once or twice a week in late spring/early summer. We had one in Omaha last year with 80mph winds that dropped an inch of rain in 8 minutes, and 4 inches total over about 5 hours. What I love though is that people here give zero Fs about that sort of thing. The reaction to a tornado warning (which goes by county) is usually, "Cool, let me figure out exactly where it is and where it's going, then decide if/when I need to care." I've only ended up needing to take shelter for one. And I did it responsibly in a basement bar.

Ended up spending the afternoon at Top Golf. Wow, is that a hell of a business model. Really enjoyed it.

I was walking on the concourse right behind home plate when Trout hit his bomb today. That ball was freaking TAGGED.

You were definitely right on that one. That was a freaking chore getting to Surprise. My brother managed to get an autograph and picture with Willie Wilson though, so it was all worth it in his book.
  23. I'm heading to AZ this afternoon. Catching a Royals game with my brother (a huge Royals fan) tonight, then an Angels game tomorrow, and flying back Sunday night. Any suggestions on food/drink spots to hit up? There'll be a group of about 8 of us total, but no kids or anything.
  24. He'll be fine. He's probably still approaching every appearance as a chance to work on one or two specific things, whether it's mechanical, physical, or some particular pitch. Feel free to worry at the end of next week.
