Who are some of the other top relief pitching prospects in the minors? The only guy who comes to mind is Jimmy Sherfy, as that's only because I followed him at Oregon. I do remember guys like Ryan Perry, Josh Fields, and Daniel Bard being regarded as future top closers not too long ago, and incidentally all of those guys flamed out.

We're gonna need about 5 runs to keep it out of Frieri's reach.

It's not even the Navarro callup that bothers me, it 's the fact that Ibanez and Stewart continue to get regular starts in the middle of lineup despite being two of the worst hitters in the entire league (Ibanez in fact is dead last among all qualified players in avg). It simply defies logic.

Meanwhile he has no problem using Kohn and Morin, two far superior pitchers, for multiple innings in mopup duty.

Hopefully that's the last we see of Santiago for some time. Dude is like a kid going through puberty out there with his meltdowns and histrionics.

Ian Stewart is batting 5th for a major league baseball team. Seriously, think about that for a second.

2-8 in one run games. And no, it's not bad luck.

Jepsen's ERA is 6.35. 6.35. That doesn't even count the inherited runners he's allowed to score. There is simply no reason why such a bad player should ever be in your bullpen regardless of his role, unless the league enacts a rule that requires you to have at least one 6+ ERA reliever in your bullpen at all times.

Why? His playoff record speaks for itself. I hated him when he was with the Caps and hated it when the Ducks hired him, and neither last year's first round flameout nor this year's performance so far has changed the fact that he is a woeful playoff coach and that his teams lose to way lower seeds every year.

I think we're close. If we can make a few incremental moves like trim some of the fat (Herrera, Maronde, Shuck), call up Cron to at least platoon with Ibanez, and call up Green, Bedrosian, and Alvarez, this will be a very good team once Calhoun and Hamilton come back.

AngelsFaninGA got a reaction from Butcher'd in Has Scioscia lost his mind
Us winning doesn't change the fact that Herrera and Maronde should not be on a major league roster and have no business pitching in a 3 run game. Scioscia walked a fine line with his bullpen management last night and we're fortunate Jepsen/Kohn/Salas were uncharacteristically solid.

Regarding Morin, I can understand building his confidence but if we're waiting for a blowout before playing him we could be waiting for a long time. We haven't had a lopsided loss since the opening series so we're basically waiting for another game where we jump out to a 9-0 lead by the 5th inning. Those kinds of games are few and far between even for this offense, There's no reason for the 2 worst relievers in the pen to get priority over Morin.

    Scoring by inning:

    1-3:  45
    4-6:  44
    7-9:  39

A little less, sure, but "nonexistent" is exactly the kind of hyperbole you're defending the bullpen against.  FWIW, the same breakdown for opponents:

    1-3: 28
    4-6: 24
    7-9: 41

Meh. The run differential is inflated because of a handful of lopsided wins (9-1, 11-1, 14-2, 13-1), just like the Rangers's differential is deflated because of a few lopsided losses. The record in one-run games is due to a shaky bullpen and a lack of timely hitting (we've griped for years about how this team mails it in in the later innings). Good teams win one-run games, bad teams don't. It's telling that if you look at the standing last year the good teams (with the lone exception of Detroit) were over .500 in one-run games, while the bad teams were under .500.
