They are probably referencing reports about him and Barria - I believe an athletic article talked about that more in depth (I cannot confirm this, since I am a garbage human who hasn't bought a subscription to the Athletic yet). But, it sounds like at least Barria felt like White kinda made some really bad changes, and ended up getting in his head in a bad way. As you mention earlier - when a pitcher is on the bump, its just him and the batter up there, and it is on the pitcher (not the catcher, and not the pitching coach) to get the job done. But...you still hate to see that kinda thing - a young pitcher who feels like our pitching coach is making him worse.

Well that's good to know. Everything else I've heard is that White was completely useless.
But it's easy to place that kind of blame when the pitching is so bad.

Sandoval moved to the center of the rubber for his final 5ish starts last season and had about a 3.70 ERA in those games. 

Adell is projected at 224 plate appearances for 0.1 WAR (note, we are projected to get 0.2 WAR out of right field in total), and Cannning is projected at 135 innings pitched for 1.7 WAR. Those two stepping up could be huge. Also, Teheran is interesting. Given his career WAR/IP, if he pitches 179 innings, you would project that he accumulates 1.8 WAR (though only 1.6 WAR if he produces the same rate that he did last year). Lets hope he can continue to confound pitching metrics....

Correct - and I do. I've actually rated Eppler pretty highly in the past, especially on Ohtani and Trout (Ohtani because it really was about selling the Angels due to the fact that everyone was paying him about the same amount, and Trout because from a WAR perspective, that's probably the most team friendly contract in modern baseball). The Simmons trade was also a stroke of genius. But, this is definitely a frustrating black mark against him (unless he's about to pull some kinda rabbit out of his sleeve).

IDK man, isn't part of a GM's job is to figure out ways to convince players that they want to play for their team? Like, I get it, its a hard job. I couldn't do it. But, that's why I'm getting paid 80k a year and not...what DOES Eppler get paid? I'm guessing between 750k and 1.5mil a year, but I can't seem to find any sources.

This can explain why individual pitchers did not sign, but a failure to get anyone significant reflects poorly on Eppler's ability to do his job.

If you are going to knock him for that, you've gotta give him massive credit for Ohtani, who was pursued by every team.   Trout, too.  And Rendon.

If this was the outcome of the Rendon signing maybe we shouldn’t have signed him honestly. We need pitching.

We very well could be done. We’ve sat here for 4 off seasons already telling ourselves “there’s no way Eppler is done, he for sure has something up his sleeve” only for him to do nothing.

Of course not, he’s known damn well he’s needed to fix the pitching for 5 years and hasn’t done anything, and by all accounts the pursuit of Rendon was all Moreno, and it was his meetings with Boras that really sealed the deal.
