There are too many similar threads on this forum... trying to decide which one to post in regarding Rendon...

I love everything about Rendon.  Obviously, he has a great glove and bat - but I also love the way he carries himself.  Even though I don't have any idea what the culture of the Angels' clubhouse is like, I believe he'd be a better fit than Donaldson.  Rendon is humble, he is a man of faith and  just seems like he'd be a perfect fit.  He has a reputation for being great in the community.  Again, I love everything about the guy and we all know he's very clutch in the postseason.
The Angels need pitching in the worst possible way.  That being said, I would love to see Rendon in Anaheim.  He'd instantly become one of my favorite players of all time.

And our team could still be significantly better than it would have been with Cole and whatever else they would have done if they signed Cole.

If plan A was signing Cole and having 10M-15M leftover
And plan B is signing Rendon, having 15M-20M, and the ability to trade infield depth for more pitching
Plan B can easily be more beneficial in 2020 and the following years.

While losing out on Cole sucks we can easily be in a better place going forward, time will tell.

Edit: We can also easily be in a significantly worse position as well such as signing Donaldson and him getting injured and then trading for Price who is worse than 2019.

An offense that includes Trout, Rendon, Ohtani, Adell, and Marsh for the next 7+ years sounds like a lot of fun to watch.

Pretty obvious the Nationals are the mystery team. They’re deferring 350M of his 400M dollar contract.

Cahill -0.8 WAR in 102.1 IP for 9M
Harvey -0.3 WAR in 59.2 IP for 11M
Total: -1.1 WAR in 162 IP for 20M
Bundy 2.5 WAR in 161.2 IP for 6M~ (Average over the last 3 seasons 2.1 WAR 167 IP)
So 3+ WAR better for 14M cheaper.

In 2019 we had a bonus pool of 7,608,700, without the 2nd and 3rd round slot money that number would have went down to 5,664,100. Slot money for our first round pick was 3,885,800. So that would have left us with 1,778,300 for rounds 4-10 or to go over slot on our 1st rounder. If they lose their 2nd/3rd they could/should still go after the guy they like at #10 overall and draft college seniors in order to go over slot if needed.

Yep. As I said awhile back, their shared bad year is the second biggest reason the Angels sucked in 2019. 8.5 (in 2018) to 1.5 fWAR is a big drop....-7 wins just from those two guys.
Even if they both have just modest bounce-backs, say 3-4 WAR for Simmons and 2-3 WAR for Upton, that's +5-7 wins.

This.  The last 10 years made me realize how spoiled we were as Angels fans from 2004-2009.  Obviously I would have preferred they won it all during that span but I'll take competitive baseball with a chance over bad baseball any day. Player accolades and banners for wins in a season really don't mean shit a few years down the line. World Series trophies, competitive baseball and even painful losses (screw you 2005 ALCS) are things you'll never forget as a fan.

If you can't get Odorizzi for less than that, then you don't sign him.
only a couple pitchers got 3 years or more in the last FA market.
corbin 6/140 - good in the fist year
eovaldi 4/67.5  - terrible in the first year.  already in the pen
Kikuchi 3/43 - terrible in the first year.
Lynn - 3/30 - surprisingly good his first year.
the rest are relievers in Britton, Familia, Ottavino, Joe Kelly.  Two of them have been good and the other two, not so much.
the year before that, most of the starters signed for 3 or more year have been a mess in Darvish, Arrieta, Cobb, Chatwood.  Mike Minor has been the only good choice and he got 3/28.
I think Odorizzi gets 3/36 max and maybe even a little less aav to get that 3rd year.
Ryu will go back to the dogs on a two year deal. Maybe 3 years but I doubt it.
Bumgarner probably gets 4 years but he might end up in Keuchel limbo.
Wheeler is a wild card but I bet he ends up with 3 years as well.
    Cole will get 6.
If the market stays similar to last year, then the mid tier market for SP is at least closer to being in line as to their true value and I would be ok with one of those guys in addition to Cole.
I look at a guy like Zack Wheeler and think he's a classic Eppler target.  Big time fastball velo.  High spin rates on his curve.  Some untapped potential.  I could see him being a primary target regardless of whether they get Cole.
I really don't want to see the Angels trade from the farm to get an arm next year unless they can do so without giving up Marsh.
While I think there is some growing consensus that the Angels need to sign 3 starters next year, I think if they get Cole and one other, they will be ok.  Maybe a 1yr deal on top of that for a guy like a Wade Miley or a Gio Gonzalez type but I wouldn't have them commit to 3 SP contracts of 3 years or more.
I also think people will be surprised as to the progression that some of the young guys will make in a year.  Canning, Suarez, Sandoval and Barria are all going to get better.  With a top four of 2 FAs, Ohtani and Heaney, those other four can man the back of the rotation.  Peters can also fill in and maybe even Trop if need be.  That would be ten guys without making a trade.  Add one more on a 1/5 deal and I think we're set while keeping the farm intact.
They're gonna need Marsh sooner than later.

Jackson has a .301 average from July 1st on.
His first 14 games he hit .214/.333/.536 with 4 HR while striking out 35% of the time
His last 37 games he's hit .301/.356/.699 with 16 HR while striking out 30% of the time. His average is better and he's striking out less so thats encouraging, but he's also walking less. 16% in his first 14 games versus 7% his last 37.

While it’s nothing special, if he had this line as a 21 year old in Double-A there would be a lot less concern. The sample size of his good numbers is now bigger than his bad numbers. His first 51 games

His last 30 games have also been even better. Hopefully he can finish the year strong
