Junkballer reacted to LAA Road Tripper in Classic Baseball Photos
A little late to the game on this but Fred Lynn was the 1982 ALCS MVP in their loss to Milwaukee. Not that it really matters. I would have rather had Cecil Cooper win the award and the Angels win the series. Still hurts but it's only been 34 years. I need to give it some time.

******** CAUTION ****************** CAUTION ************
buddy of mine drives for uber and just gave walker and his wife a ride yesterday, somewhere near ventura. He asked walker about signing with the halos and walker told my friend larry "when it came to money they didn't act like they really wanted him." but he's open to it happening next year when he's a free agent again.
there, i've had my troll glaus moment for the day. you may resume your regular programming.

Junkballer reacted to Second Base in Have the Angels already said they won't be in on this guy?
Announcement forthcoming. We don't do the whole Asian thing. Are shelled out for Hideki Matsui but that whole year Arte kept turning around, felt like Charlie was all around him. Dipoto tried convincing him Japanese wasn't Korean or Vietnamese, but Arte mumbled something about a duck being a duck.

Junkballer got a reaction from ScruffytheJanitor in Jon Lester - what is going on with him??
Fun fact: He shot career FT's at .562. Had he averaged .800 he'd have scored 3066 more points and would have ended up 5th on the all time scoring list, behind Kareem, Mailman, Kobe & MJ but passing Wilt and Nowitzki.

Junkballer reacted to Blarg in We have more to make up than you think (or not)
All of @Dochalo number analysis at the start was taking the stats as the answer instead of first defining the question then working towards an answer.
The real question is did the Angels field a complete 25 man roster?
The Angels threw 53 players into the roster last season. At no point was it a complete 25 man roster, there were replacement level players from day one. If you want to see a better outcome then create a roster that can stay on the field.
I know, too stupidly simple to be the real answer, only one number, 53 but it should not have been over twice that of another simple number, 25.
How do the Angels get there come opening day is where Eppler earns his money but I really have a hard time envisioning him not only filling current roster holes but just as important, if not more, a minor league that can provide players that can fill roles instead of catch and release all season.
20+ non solutions from the minors is not going to move the club forward next season.

Junkballer reacted to ettin in Jeff Fletcher's Previous Career
I finally figured out why Jeff pursued a career in sports writing because he clearly loves to WHIP it!
Sorry Jeff this is the clash and culmination of listening to too much music, reading baseball and needing a break from reading all of these NASA mission specifications at work....

Reset your DVRs. Time change due to weather. Moved to 6:08 central which I believe is 4:08 pacific.

I'm not sure if I'd pitch Lester head to head with Kluber again. They have the depth to switch things up. If Lester lost games 1 & 4 there's no way you could bring him in for a game 7.

I can't wait to see if the Tribe can force Lester to make pickoff throws and if Maddon is going to stay on the same track of exempting him from trying to keep runners honest. What the Dodgers were doing against Lester was hilarious because even with a 20' leadoff they still wouldn't run. If Lester doesn't throw to first it will be a track meet because given a leadoff even remotely close to what they gave the Dodgers the Tribe will run and succeed. Other than this factor, I would favor the Cubs for game 1 but I think it is their weak link in this particular pitching matchup.

Junkballer got a reaction from Tank in What (if anything) would make you no longer be a fan?
I thought I'd be a lifelong Rams fan until John Shaw & Georgia Frontiere essentially decided to ruin the team in order to move it. I think I'll always be an Angels fan but certain things I would consider a betrayal, such as not working in good faith to keep the team within the greater LA region. I can handle mediocrity by moderating the amount of time I spend watching & reading about them, but it would really take something extraordinary by ownership for me to flip the switch. Still can't turn the Rams switch back on, nor the NFL for that matter.
