Not only inaccurate, but I think not so smart. As the premier free agent (along with Rendon) in a rather tenuous market, there is always the possibility that the longer a free agent waits to sign, the more uncertain their contract will be - especially if he waits until all the other good pitchers sign. 
Right now Cole sets his own market. He will easily get the largest contract for a free agent pitcher in baseball history, quite possibly $20-30+ million more. But that could  change, depending upon how the other contracts unfold.
In other words, right now Cole is virtually guaranteed a 7/$220-250M contract. If he holds out into January or February to get $260-280M, he might, but he also has a chance of slipping a bit, if teams fill their needs.

Wouldn’t even be a discussion had Trout got to face the Angels starting rotation and Bregman face the Astros starting rotation.

Yes. I think a big part of the problem is that not alot of people play the sport and therefore cant relate to how hard and amazing the game can be. For example, several years ago a friend from graduate school and myself went to a game. This guy is a basketball player and never played the game. There was a ball hit in between short and 3rd into shallow left. Aybar ranged to his right made a backhand play, turned and threw a strike chest high to first. I was on my feet ecstatic. He was completely dumbfounded as to my excitement. Basically, he had no understanding of how difficult, next to impossible, that play was to make let alone the athletic skill required to make it. He could not relate.

Major league teams sold something like 70 million tickets last season.  “A disappointment”. But yes, let’s argue about the withering viability of Major League Baseball.  Never mind the literal billions in tv and merchandising revenue.

You are preaching to the choir, I agree. We are purists. I was referring to the problem of attendance and how they could increase ratings. My reasons are that the continuity of history will be lost but baseball needs to do something to increase ratings to get younger people interested. This does lead to better, more talented baseball in the future.

That’s what makes the postseason so fun... The dodgers couldn’t beat the wild card team. Sucks for them. 
 
yeah it sucked to get knocked out in the first round every year by the Sox in 07 and 08 but hey that’s baseball. You need to execute in a 5 or 7 game series when it counts.

I think he plays in a weak National League where most teams are pathetic and he gets the benefit of a pitcher every 3rd inning. However, in the playoffs he faces teams elite enough to be there and hitters are better than average. In short, overrated. 

2.44 ERA in the regular season.
3.78 NLDS
4.61 NLCS
5.40 WS
As you can see the numbers get much worse as the situation becomes greater.
He had countless chances to make up for past failures and it gets worse and worse.
For someone that is considered as the best pitcher in the current generation, he keeps constantly failing in the big moment.

That series will be great. Do you even need infielders for that series?
