Blown saves is a false stat.
Blown games isn't a false stat.

    Nice bullpen, Billy!
Still want to shop at Big Lots and the 99 cent store?
You’ve had FIVE years to build a bullpen!

As a corner OFer, if the CFer doesn't call you off, you take it.  I seriously doubt Trout called him off and then ran behind him.  That was most likely Ward's fault.

Double-check his stats, Mark. The Babe hit .288/.448/.537 with 5.2 WAR in his last full year (1935). His final season (1936) he only played 28 games at 0.2 WAR. He was still great in 1932, very good in '33-34, and then just played 28 games in '36.
The "whimper" is entirely the result of long contracts. Miggy and Albert would have retired a few years ago if they weren't making huge money.

I met him once at an Angels game. He took some time and talked to my dad and me before the game. I remember being just wowed that anyone wearing that uniform would stop and talk to us. Afterward, my dad would describe him just as you did, and talk about how he played fungo with the players. Great moment, really grounded dude, but worthy of number retirement? I'm not so sure. Number retirement kind of becomes a slippery slope with some orgs, so I tend to set a high bar for that. The Gene Autry one never resonated with me because, to me, number retirements are for on-field accomplishments. There MANY other ways to pay tribute the The Cowboy. The Reese one always seemed a bit much as well.

They haven't retired Salmon, GA, or Vlad's number. No way they retire Albert's.

Rendon is going to play every game?
I was referring that Thaiss could play back up along with a platoon at 1b.

Right.  So just somewhat projecting things out in terms of a lineup / players...
SS Fletcher, CF Trout, 3B Rendon, DH Ohtani, LF Upton, RF Adell, 1B "lefty" / Pujols, C Stassi, 2B ?? (Rengifo?)
With 9 position players, we'll probably carry a 4 man bench and an 8 man bullpen (and 5 SPs + possibly Ohtani).
Let's assume that Walsh occupies 1B and Pujols becomes more of a bench player.  That's one bench player.  Then you have a backup catcher, so that's 2.
That leaves 2 spots for utility players.  Barreto is out of options, so unless the FO cuts bait that quickly, you have to imagine he would be one of those 2 players.
So that leaves 1 spot left for either Thaiss or Ward, if you assume that Rengifo ends up as the starting 2B.  Maybe that's why they are trying to have Thaiss move around - so that he can, potentially, occupy a utility role.
I'll add if we were to more ideally construct this roster, we would just release Pujols and perhaps employ a Walsh/Ward or Thaiss/Ward platoon at 1B, but I don't think we're going to see that.

Exactly, which is why playing each for the rest of the season helps to gauge them better.

I think a change a scenery is just what Bundy needed. Thank god we didn’t trade him. We would have not gotten the same value back. If we can get Bauer and a #2 starter in the offseason, can you imagine a rotation where Bundy is your #3 pitcher.....

I mentioned in the Thaiss 2B thread, that I wonder if Joe is trying to make him into another Zobrist.
2B Tuesday, LF Wednesday, DH today
Thaiss in 2019 at age 24 was a much better hitter than Zobrist at age 25 (first MLB season for both, around 160 PAs for both).   Thaiss’ OPS was well over 100 pts higher.

If you do not know much about Roberto Clemente, I encourage you to read about his biography and the racial issues he experienced when playing in the Major Leagues.
Truth be told, he was one of my childhood heroes because of the way he played the game and the way he lived his life with generosity.  I didn't want to it to pass without being acknowledged.  Thanks for indulging me.

Not disputing the logic or anything.  Just that that thought is something that happens when thinking about this team.  Jesus.
