The Angels should  take a shot with Greg Bird, who the Yankees had to dump. 
 
 

160-170 innings, mid 4 ERA.  Former top prospect.  27 years old.  Back end of the rotation that can pitch innings.  Plus I can't imagine the acquisition cost would be that high.

i really hope the angels do NOT sign keuchel. if wheeler's price escalates and starts to interfere with cole's numbers, then i'd be all for signing madbum and cole. personally, i don't think the angels are getting two 1A pitchers anyways. i think they're looking at one front line starter and then a guy.

there's video of them banging the trash can for pretty much every player including Springer, Altuve, Bregman and Correa.

I'm not sure how you can say it's been overblown.  the lengths they've gone to are literally insane to me.

maybe.  The Astros are still projected to be the best offense in the league and by a decent amount actually.  Other teams ahead of the halos.

but that's it.  even with the stuff I mentioned where I see so things that I don't find very accurate about the projections.  the other thing it doesn't do a great job of projecting are players with less major league experience.  So Fletcher, Thaiss, La Stella, Goodwin, Rengifo, Walsh, Adell, etc.  Most of that probably washes out to some degree.  
Catcher still seems like the most obvious addition, but now that Grandal is gone, there likely isn't a huge delta of the remaining guys.  RF is a weak spot per the projections but they're just not giving any credit to Adell for his prowess or for Goodwin's solid 2019.  I'm inclined to think we're much better there than the numbers show but it might be wise to go with a solid vet 4th OFer.  Like a Brock Holt or Jason Kipnis or even bringing back Calhoun if the price is right for 1yr.  The other spot to potentially fill would be 1b but I just don't see the halos adding depth there.  I feel like they think they've got enough between La Stella, Albert, Thaiss, Ward and Walsh.  
there are definitely some question marks, but I think our offense is very good personally. There was long stretch during the past year where we were one of the top 5 offenses when everyone was healthy.  It was very balanced and if we get even a decent hitting catcher, we can be that way again.  
Again, I do think we need an upgrade at C, but if there are any additional resources, I think we need to supplement the pen a bit with a solid multi-inning reliever.  I would put that on par with offense as a priority after fixing the SP.

Hope not. That whole design should be trashed and forgotten. It was the worst design I’ve ever seen across the board. I hated, hated, hated it. The thought of going back to it on any level makes me want to puke. 

We'd have the best youngest rotation in baseball. When Arte signs both Wheeler and Cole this team is at minimum a 100 win team. With Trout and Cole in their primes this team might be the front runner for WS favorites.

d’Arnaud is a backup catcher. We already have two of those guys. Solid pass. 

If you miss out on Grandal then you don't turn around and take 8m away from your budget to get a 2nd tier catcher when there are plenty of other 2nd tier options and you haven't done anything else.  
Even if d'Arnaud ends up having a solid year, you'd don't let it keep you from targeting someone like Wheeler.  And what I mean by that is I'd rather be able to give Wheeler an extra 10-12 mil and have a lesser catcher.  

It was a missed opportunity when he was DFAed and available for a waiver claim.   
Now he's a guy that parlayed a hot two month stretch into 2 years and 16 mil...   From August on he posted a .644 OPS, falling back to being the same sub .300 OBP hitter he had been the previous three years 2016-2018.
MLB teams have access to a lot of info we don't, maybe Atlanta thinks it's real but this is one time I'm happy the Angels missed.
