If these guys weren't already in AAA, then I think what you're saying is probably true.
    - Rengifo is going to be the sort of 2B that hits .280 with 20 SB, .340 OBP and solid defense. That's not an all-star or anything, but it's a rock solid regular.
    - Thaiss I envision being about as good as Hosmer offensively, though not a gold glove 1B. If he gets full playing time, he'd be average-ish overall at the position, but I really feel like Albert will retire after this year, and Marsh will breakout in AA. I think going into next year, Upton is going to begin logging some starts at first base, designated hitter (when Shohei isn't) and serve as the 4th OF. This will probably only leave 300 PA available for a 1B, and those will ultimately be between Thaiss and Walsh. I actually think this end s up going to Walsh. He isn't as good of a hitter as Thaiss, but he offers slightly more power, doubles as a situational lefty in the pen and can even log time in the corner outfield if necessary. That versatility opens up another roster spot for someone speedy to come off the bench and steal a base, or an extra reliever. So whatever Thaiss' outcome, I'm not sure it comes with the Angels long term.
    - Ward, I have little confidence if any for him to be someone that hits for average or plays gold glove defense. But he should reach base at an ok clip and hit 25 HR's a year. For me, I think the path to playing time long term will be a battle between Ward and Jam Jones. If Jones reaches his potential, he'll be the starting 2B, hands down. He'd hit for average, get on base and be a 20/20 player every year and I think that would force Rengifo over to third base. So I'm not sure who will be the long term piece between Ward and Jones,  but I'm confident on the will be.
    - Fletcher will be exactly what he is right now. A better than average utility player. One good enough to start whenever.
    - Jo Adell will be an all-star caliber starting OF that hits 30 HR and 20 SB a year.
    - Brandon Marsh will be a borderline all-star caliber starting OF.
I might be a homer,  but that's the way I see it.

How many “TROUT IS GOING TO PHILLY AND THE WORLD IS ENDING” threads do we really need?

And ill follow that up with... if he wants to win so bad why would he spurn the angels to go to philly? Nats couldn’t do anything with Harper... McCutchen wasn’t a difference maker for the giants.. segura was good but not amazing in seattle. Rotation is solid with many question marks, bullpen is meh. They haven’t made the playoffs since 2011. We have a better farm system, more future payroll flexibility, oh and Shoehei Ohtani. What exactly is so enticing about philly other than it’s his hometown team??

Attention Harper, Machado, and Keuchel….MLB owners are no longer throwing away big money on inconsistent hitting, doucheness, or becoming a hits machine on the mound.
DEAL WITH IT!   SIGN WITH SOMEONE!  Got it?  Good!

So Arte needs to consult the board on the best way to show that he’s trying to win? He needs to ask the board which players to sign? Will that solve this?
Arte’s spending is a huge reason why we haven’t been able to compete in free agency in recent years, and a huge reason why dollars didn’t go to the farm.
But Arte’s spending also kept us consistently amongst the best of the AL for a full decade. No tanking. No rebuilding. His spending got us our first HOF and an MVP, a Cy Young winner, and his spending is the reason Trout didn’t hit free agency two years ago.
Yeah some of the signings were big mistakes. Oh Facking well. Every team has them. Arte could’ve pulled the plug, cut payroll to nothing, watched Trout bolt, and enjoyed the easy, casual lackadaisical SoCal fans for easy money for a few years while ‘rebuilding’ but instead he still lets the GM push the payroll to the last edge of what they deem viable every single season. The only difference is now the GM is savvy enough to spread that money as far as possible and keep things as flexible as possible while working on building some farm team sustainability, instead of shelling it out on big busts like his predecessors.

We'll be in one of three spots:
    1.  Worst case scenario is the team will be sucking and all the 1yr deal players will be as well.   The good news is that all those guys will be done after the season and we'll have a bunch of money to spend the following year.  Plus, Ohtani will be close to being back on the mound.
    2.  Best case is that we're in it and vying for a playoff berth.  Perhaps even buyers.
    3.  Consolation prize is that we're out of it yet some of the 1yr deals are performing well.  Not only does that help the team long term, but it's interesting.
Lucroy, Harvey, Cahill, Allen, Calhoun.  Maybe we could even find a taker for Cozart or Cam.  Then we get to see more or get a first look at Adell, Rengifo, Canning, Suarez, Thaiss, Ward, Fletcher and maybe Jones, Walsh, Sandoval, Smith, and a few others.

I truly don’t like Machado, but I would somehow ignore that I don’t like him if we signed him.  It is really tough to get that type of talent in their prime and we would have two of them plus Ohtani and the guy right behind them as it relates to age and prime.

I believe it is, If you look at his career to date hes been the man, there was noone on the team for him to look up to or with the moxie to get in his face.  Any of those 3 men are on that level.  Im not suggesting it would work, only that if it ever would, they are the ones  to do it.

Also, anyone signing him to play SS as more than a short gap is making a giant mistake.  You could maybe justify the money as a 3B, but not as a SS.

I've got no problem if the Angels want to spend more money to add better players that can help for now and in the future.
I just don't like Manny Machado.
but here's something to consider.  A Simmons extension is likely going to cost you at least 5/100.  Probably closer to 5/125.  Including his 2020 season, that 6/140.  Or an AAV of 23.3m.
If you can get Machado at 8/220 or an aav of 27.5m, (plus that extra 2 years) does it make sense to trade Simmons after this year (who, as a 4-5 WAR player likely has very good value on the trade market), and get a couple of players including a pitcher with #1 potential and maybe our catcher of the future while only adding about 4m in AAV starting in 2021?  What if Simmons has indicated that he's got no interest in an extension?
If Simmons wants to stay that may change people's minds, but should it?  I love Simmons, but adding Machado for 8 years from age 26-33 for an extra 4m in AAV PLUS two top prospects who are essentially major league ready vs. keeping Simmons for age 30-35 on just a little less money per year seems like something the team should absolutely consider.

At least I know exactly where we disagree.  I think it is all about the age.
It is literally NEVER a good bet that a 31 or 32 years old's best years are in front of them.  It is almost NEVER a good bet they will still even be serviceable in their late late 30s.
It is a very reasonable bet that Machado and Harpers best few seasons are ahead of them and it is also reasonable that they will be serviceable or better through their entire contract.
For me, this all about the age.
