What a weird thing to get pissed over. Donaldson's tag was clean. Maybe a bit harder than normal, but Machado tried to jump out of the way and Donaldson had to lunge at him with the glove quickly. It'd be one thing if it was a dumb misunderstanding and everyone moved on, but purposely throwing a bat at another player over something he was wrong about in the first place was pretty chicken shit.

India is insane. It's like they said to themselves at some point, "Let's just focus on making awesome food and really cokey dance videos. Everything else will just figure itself out after that."

I grew up in Riverside and my grandparents have lived in Adelanto for about 20 years, so I've spent a fair amount of time there. Believe the others. It is a shit hole. It'd be hard to imagine a more terrible place to live. I've spent a lot of time in rural Kansas and Nebraska, and I've yet to run into a place as WT as Adelanto/Victorville. You couldn't possibly pay me enough money to live there.

I've been to the CWS a few times. It's quite a bit of fun, and definitely the main event of the year here. I actually live about a mile from the new stadium.

I usually look at K/BB rate, BAA, and WHIP more than anything. I know there are more advanced stats out there, but I think those three usually paint a pretty accurate overall picture.

I understand that perspective. And I get that you can only ask questions and report a response. I've never been a professional reporter or beat writer, so I'm sure I don't have a full understanding of the relationship management involved. As a fan though, it's just frustrating to hear a manager say something that quantifiable data doesn't support.

It's funny that Scioscia can say things that are categorically false and have nobody call him on it. Imagine trying that in NY or Boston.

Dead on man. I understand that some people like the idea of having a weapon on them, but the chances of an accidental discharge are way higher than the chances of running into a situation where you need it to defend your life.

Statistically speaking, the more guns that are out there, the more accidental shootings will increase. While the pro-gun supporters will quickly jump on every CCW shooting that prevented a bigger tragedy, anti-gun folks will just as quickly jump on every accidental shooting or every vigilante action that goes south.
I worry about the hotheads on the fwys.

I'm not a fan of concealed carry. If I'm carrying I want everyone to know. Let the path of least resistance (real or assumed) flow elsewhere.

I'll jump in here and say that I find myself somewhere in the middle. Obviously, this guy shouldn't have had access to firearms given his mental state. Unfortunately, we don't have a system that guards against that very well, if at all. I would love to see one enacted, though its proper application and effectiveness almost certainly wouldn't be perfect. I'd also like to see a ban on the sale of high capacity magazines and ammunition intended to maim. I don't give a shit what you use your weapon for, the idea that you need more than 8 rounds in any application short of trench warfare is absurd. And as for the maiming rounds being needed for home defense, I call bullshit there as well. Self defense does not mean killing another person, it means stopping them. Good shots with any FMJ round excluding .22 and .380 should do that every time.
On to the other side of my argument. I'm not anti-gun. I believe that law-abiding, mentally stable people should be able to own reasonable weapons for hunting, self defense, and target shooting. I also believe that a ban on guns in general is entirely impractical for three reasons: First, there are just way too many of them already in circulation throughout the country. Good luck collecting them. Second, they're thoroughly engrained in American culture. And third, there are places in this country where people do truly need them (i.e. the rural Northwest).
So yeah, that's my rant. Let's keep the guns, but let's also make a real effort not to let crazy people have them, and let's try to reduce the amount of harm they can do to humans.

Yep. It's not like he was repulsively ugly or anything. The dude just lacked an ability to connect with people socially. I had a buddy in college that was about 6'1", 290, and he got laid all the time. Why? Because he was just a fun guy to be around in almost any setting. Some people are born with an ability to do that, some have to work to get there, and some just can't do it. Unfortunately, this dude in Santa Barbara was in the third camp. You add that to all of his other mental problems then mix in access to weapons, and well...
