wopphil reacted to OregonLAA in Josh Hamilton has filed for divorce
Everyone seems to be wishing Josh the best in here and Brandon comes in here and gets pissy that we are talking about it lol
For someone who "doesn't spend much time in the baseball forum", you're in the baseball forum a lot

It would be dumb to buy him out for 75-90% of his deal. Better to see if he can return and be semi-productive (the way he was last year).

wopphil reacted to tdawg87 in Scioscia and Ebel had dinner with Hamilton last night...
They only had Pepsi, unfortunately.

And conversely, some don't want to place any blame whatsoever on Hamilton, excusing his behavior as a "disease" and calling others self righteous for not being sympathetic.
IMO, Hamilton made a terrible decision that really has no excuse. I can't imagine that his body was craving drugs so bad he had no "choice" but to relapse. I think, more likely, he was dealing with personal problems, wanted a mental break from them, and didn't give a shit about the consequences.
That being said, I don't think his actions (at least from what I know of them) warrant the severity of response from the team, and certainly don't merit rescission of his contract. The team seems to be doubling down and making a bad situation worse.

State Attorney Generals are politicians just like the rest of them, and they serve Governors. Some consumer group squeaks about fruit flavored cigarettes and a political decision is made.

New Middle East strategy: Westboro Baptist Church members dropped in Iraq with the mission to convert ISIS members to Christianity.

wopphil got a reaction from Jason in Marco Rubio quote
Yep. By all accounts, interned individuals were treated humanely. Doesn't make it less of a black eye in our history, but does serve to demonstrate that Americans are generally humane people.
How did the Japanese treat POW? How did the Germans treat the Jews? How are non-Muslims (and Muslims, for that matter) treated today in Muslim nations? How are women treated today in many parts of the world?
The U.S. has made and will continue to make its mistakes, but is still far superior to most places in earth in terms of how it treats its people and other peoples.

Rubio's comments are refreshing after six years of American self-loathing and recriminations by Obama and his associates.

This is a good point. It wasn't like Josh's body was going through withdrawals and he took the cocaine to feel better physically. He consciously decided to go out and seek it, and probably had ample opportunity to "turn the car around" and reverse course.

Know doubt the U.S. has made mistakes. It's still the. best country and does the most good. I'm not sure sure why some libs won't stand up for a statement like that. -

Then I am interested. If your golden retriever can jump and catch a frisbee, share that shit.

He's going to make $426,000 this weekend hanging out at a ranch resting his shoulder.
What a racket.

Salas has looked like garbage since late last year. I am thinking he won't be on the team very long if he doesn't pull it together soon.

So, you had to deal with entitled oriental chicks (first generation American born, no doubt) and then had to deal with a bunch of iranian men. What were you expecting your experience to be at Fletcher Jones? I'm surprised no one asked you if you wanted to refi your house.

wopphil reacted to Inside Pitch in All purpose Sean Newcomb thread
My guess is thats it's probably because Ellis was at Ole Miss and they play in the SEC while Newcomb pitched at Hartford, in the AEC. Both are Div1 but the AEC nowhere near as high profile or as competitive a conference.
Ellis seems to be having himself a game early on. Nice to see.

wopphil reacted to Vegas Halo Fan in more liberal idiocy
Don't know how California works, but in our system any recommendations for outside medical procedures, from scans to surgery, are reviewed weekly by a panel of our physicians. Non-essential procedures need not apply. They decide as a group what gets done and what gets put off. I realize that a court got involved in this one, but we have yet to lose a case in court - and we have had numerous inmates in various degrees of sexual conversion. We don't discontinue any hormone therapy they may be on, but we have never authorized a surgery.

wopphil reacted to Blarg in more liberal idiocy
There is a difference between an acceptable procedure and life threatening and needed. This is a voluntary surgery, not one that is required for the prisoner to maintain his physical health while incarcerated. For that reason it is unnecessary for the State to pay for it.

wopphil got a reaction from Vegas Halo Fan in Hamilton will not be suspended: per DiGiovanna
It goes to the fact that Hamilton seemingly doesn't give a shit about contributing to the team. Maybe he really does, I don't know, but as a fan it sure seems like he took a cavalier attitutde toward his shoulder. If he acted like he gave a damn, I think people might be more supportive.

wopphil got a reaction from fan_since79 in Hamilton will not be suspended: per DiGiovanna
I wonder how much of the team's anger is the product of Hamilton not treating his shoulder and not being prepared for spring training. That is what I find infuriating. If Hamilton had taken his injury/rehab more seriously and was ready to (try to) contribute, I doubt there would be this level of hostility.

He made a commitment to Arte, and the team to stay clean before signing his $125 million contract. He broke that commitment, why can’t they be disappointed?

Oh please. Hamilton has been an a hole and a jerk ever since he got here. And besides all that, he hasnt done his job and continues to make the same idiotic mistakes on and especially off the baseball field. Nobody is dumping anything on him, he brought all of this on himself.
But nice try though.

wopphil reacted to Brandon in California governor orders mandatory water restrictions
If it's yellow, let it mellow. If it's brown, flush it down.
What a dumbass state. We have had this problem for a while and they'd rather spend the money on some high speed train that is still in limbo. They should have addressed this problem a long time ago.
On a side note, I'm interested to see the hit to medical marijuana crops. Standard growing consumes a lot of water. Hydro systems, which ironically use water as a base to grow, use less water and get better results. I wonder if this will switch growers once water bills come in for soil and coco users.
