Don't forget Newcomb, who might end up being the best of the bunch. He looked really good in the futures game today.

mota_madness reacted to gurn67 in Guess who started the Royals' turnaround this year?
Actually, I think it was the guy who took the bat out of his 2nd best hitter's hands and had him try to bunt on a 2-0 and 3-1 pitch. Seems like ever since that unbelievable gift, they've been unstoppable.

mota_madness reacted to Chimi in it's one game
It's not one game. This is just an extension of what was going on at the end of the regular season. They're 5-10 in their last 15 games. The offense has been struggling to score runs and having a nice break isn't going to help either.

They've been snoozing ever since the 10-game win streak.

My big fear is the offense sleeping through an early exit because of the three days off.

mota_madness reacted to shellback in Scioscia's managing tonight
sciosia didn't lose the game for us. but he was definitely not putting the players in a position to succeed.
kc got EXTREMELY fortunate on those two outfield catches. either one falls-we win.

We finally did something worth while and they had an epic choke. I consider it jabbing a rival. It's done everywhere. Don't over think this!

mota_madness reacted to TroutBaseball in Josh Hamilton not seen or heard during celebration
agreed. I really appreciated that the Rangers did it that way. He might have given them permission to party without him but I like to see people proactively looking to include someone in his situation by limiting their own freedoms.

Angels were saying its a brotherhood... well brothers wouldn't leave out a brother from celebration, really disappointed they couldn't include him and go all apple cider instead. i hope they reconsider when they win the ALDS and ALCS and WS!

def agree, but arte could of eff'd things up if he knee jerked at the end of last season. it's hard to stand pat in difficult situations

mota_madness reacted to WallyWorld in Best I've felt about the team in years
Sure it's only May 14th, and sure they're only 3 games over .500, but this team is giving me more hope about their chances than I've had in a long time. As laagamer said in the gameday thread today, "we are playing baseball now gentlemen".
The offense, despite the sometimes ugly lineups filled with scrubs and guys hitting under .200, and the awful hitting w/RISP, seems to have a knack for scoring runs. That's a good sign. You have to think Trout and Pujols will both get going again, and when Hamilton comes back, this should continue to be a too offense capable of putting up some scary numbers at times.
The starting pitching - and I can't believe I'm saying this because I was as critical as anyone heading into the season - looks fantastic, assuming they stay healthy. Richards is a legit stud, Skaggs isn't far behind, and Weaver and Wilson are still very effective. Assuming our 5th starter doesn't completely Blanton all year, this is a great rotation.
And the bullpen . . . well the bullpen still scares the shit out of me. But hey, every team has its weaknesses, and they've actually been getting the job done recently.
Scioscia seems to be making some genuine changes in his strategy - witness his new back of the bullpen usage - and whether that's of his own volition or forced by Dipoto, it's a good thing.
This may still end up being nothing more than a tease, but for now I'm enjoying watching these guys again.
