i get your thinking here AJ and obviously there’s appeal for Trout, but I really dislike the idea of giving him an opt out.  If the Angels are going to sign him they need to make him an Angel for life.  He means more to the organization then a typical FA.  I think it’s important that they make sure he wears an Angels cap his entire career and just get this over with.  This guy isn’t a 33 year old Albert Pujols.  There’s an unquantifiable value in making him our Stan Musial or Tony Gwynn. 

He was a cool dude when I met him.  I was working at the INO in Santa Ana the year he played for us.  He came through the drive thru after a game one night and I recognized him.  He was driving a Nissan Pathfinder.  We chatted it up while his food was cooking.  The next night he brought me tickets.  So you can all hate him, to me he was cool as F.

Whether people like it or not, it's a respect thing.  
He's a first ballot HOFer.  
They're gonna treat him like baseball royalty.  Hopefully there have been discussions behind the scenes about when he will retire.  They'll buy out whatever is left and his final season will be the victory lap where every city he goes to will shower him with praise and teams will buy him gifts.  
If you ever want a big name free agent to come or to extend your own star players that's how you have to treat someone who's so well respected within the game.  
It part and parcel with signing someone to a 10 year deal of Albert's stature within baseball.

I could definitely see Suzuki getting signed to a 1-year, $3M type deal. He'd be a better version of Rene Rivera, splitting time and helping out the younger guys.

We need umpires that understand that every close call should go against the Red Sox.
The fans in that section should have caught Betts, pulled him into the stands and made him disappear.  I mean what's the point in having home field advantage if you can't do things like that?
