I think the reason this is good is because they offered it. By offering it, you are willing to accept that you could pay a reliever $18.4 million. Arte would never, ever have done this before because relievers are the least sexy signing possible. Perry 100% needed Arte's permission to offer, and the fact that they did is a positive sign regarding Moreno's willingness to spend on pitching this offseason. And, hopefully, his willingness to allow Perry and his team to make their own decisions. Last offseason reeked of Arte--Quintana was a total Arte move. But it seems Maddon's (and Trout's?) pushing has given Perry a little more autonomy to pursue pitching.

Glaus' last good year was 2003. He played full seasons though from 1999-2003. Glaus had 22.6 WAR in 7 seasons with the Angels. Since then.
In 2004, Figgins played the most 3B. Figgins has 22.4 WAR with the Angels in parts of 8 seasons.
in 2005 it was Dallas McPherson for 60 games. 1.0 Career WAR with the Angels over parts of three seasons.
In 2006, Maicer Izturis played 87 games at 3rd. Maicer had 12.5 WAR in his time with the Angels, mostly as a utility guy.
In 2007-2009 Figgins played the most there. Only one year was a full-time year at 154 games.
In 2010 Brandon Wood played the most games there. Negative -3.1 WAR in parts of five seasons.
In 2011-2013 Alberto Callaspo played the most games at 3rd. 7.6 WAR in parts of 4 seasons for the Angels.
In 2014-2015 David Freese was at the hot corner. Freeze had 4.5 WAR in two years with the Angels.
In 2016-2017 it was Yunel Escobar. 1.6 WAR in parts of two seasons.
In 2018 it was Luis Valbuena. (RIP) Negative -1.0 WAR in parts of two seasons.
And in 2019 it was David Fletcher. 9.5 WAR in four years. Mostly at 2nd and SS though.
TOTAL post Glaus and pre-Rendon is 55 WAR in 16 seasons, or 3.4 WAR on average. This is just the primary starter, there are too many names who've played here part time at third. If you take 58% of Figgins (540 of 936 games, you get 12.9 WAR) of 38% of Izturis (290 of 759 games -- 4.75 WAR), and 27% of Fletcher (2.56 WAR) though, you drop to 30.8 WAR.

Rendon was worth 2.2 WAR in 52 games of his one healthy season. That would've been around 6 WAR.
Yes he struggled in 2021, with injuries, and ended up right a 0.00 WAR in his 5.8 Games.
I am very happy knowing Anthony Rendon is an Angel for 5 more seasons.
 

I’m pretty sure he said before he wants to return. There’s a reason they didn’t trade him at the deadline. I tend to think that’s because they were confident they could resign him. If they really didn’t trade him because Perry thought we still had a chance to compete… then we are the most dysfunctional organization in all of baseball.

He face palms you because he’s the one that doesn’t get it, classic. 

Unless they are actively engaged in contract talks with him right now and think they have an extremely good chance of signing him, it would still be absolute insanity for them not to make a qualifying offer to him, regardless of what kind of gesture he feels that would be.  We've been over this 100 times on here.  They obviously didn't trade him at the deadline (for reasons that still aren't really clear).  If they don't re-sign him and they don't extend a QO, then they get nothing for him and they kept him at the deadline even though they had no realistic shot at making the playoffs. 

Right, so we plug the hole at SS with Fletch.  Leaving us...with a hole at 2B.
