Hitting HRs in consecutive games in Safeco is not an easy feat. Let's hope this signals a reinvigorated future Hall of Famer.

He has good stuff, he just loses control and focus. Once he gets a real pitching coach, I think he'll be fine.

I think this team currently walks enough.  I see them walking:
    1. Back to the dugout after striking out
    2. Out to their position after GIDP
    3. To the fence to pick up a ball that just hit the wall.
    4. To their position after getting out of the way of a hard hit ball.
    5. To the bench after their turn at pitching batting practice.

I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that things are disastrous now.  Personally, I don't have enough data now to come to any conclusion on this year.  If I were the GM, three games into the season wouldn't influence my decision making much at all.

As far as your constant over the past four years that could be some part of the problem, or it might be that the problem is the things that have changed over the past 4-5 years.  Managers are usually the easy target to blame, they are the most visible as far as day to day results. There were two GM's during that period, one already judged to be incompetent and the other, well who knows if his approach will be successful.  Judgemental errors have certainly occurred with both GM's.  Then there is the owner, early on not involved much in player decision making, but in the past four years more so.  How much has that contributed to failure?

I'm more of the opinion that the strategy for success is in question here.  I think we need to look at the forest, not the trees.

By the way, I'm not "mad" about the start.  For three games the Mariners played above their average level.  I can say with 95% certainty that they are not this good.  I can also say with 95% certainty that the Angels are not this bad.  You couple that level of over achievement, with the Angels level of under achievement  this is what you get, 3-0 for one team and 0-3 for the other.  I am disappointed that we underachieved.  Can it be corrected?  Well there is lots of room for improvement, how much improvement is the mystery.

I won't say that we should turn the page, what's more relevant is that we make note of what needs to be improved in player performance, and get on with trying to fix it.  If the coaches and GM can't assist in doing it, then the noose gets tighter around their neck.  The only one who can kick away the stool  is the owner.

I think he has earned an extension based on his ability to creatively improve the team. I agree that results should guide his employment, but many of the organizational changes he made make the system better but may not net immediate results. Slow and steady wins the race and Dipoto has demonstrated patience and thoughtfulness in player choices the past year. I see Dipoto getting better because it appears that he is learning from his mistakes, which is a real important quality to have in a GM position.

Blanton is currently providing a negative return. So dumping him and realizing a 0 return is still better. It's like the spoiled milk I had in my fridge this weekend. I can either keep drinking it until I finish it so I that I can justify to myself the 3 bucks I paid for it (because it was some fancy organic milk), or I can throw it out and save myself the hours on the toilet.
