No off-season where you acquire Rendon deserves anything less than a B grade.
The rotation has already been significantly upgraded. Bundy and Teheran are a huge improvement over Harvey and Cahill. A 4.5 ERA translates into 3 runs every 6 innings. The Angels offense can cover that.
If Eppler signs Ryu, and acquires a decent catcher, it's an A+ off-season.

I think a 4/$88 would get it done. Eppler needs to just do it.

Its possible that we are (as a group) underestimating Barria a little.

I don't have a subscription, but it sounds like this article goes into how Doug White kinda broke Barria. This somehow escaped my radar when it came out, but man...brief summary from reddit: "Doug White tried to make him throw four seamers up in the zone like every other pitcher in the league. Barría to my understanding was having a melt down (mentally and statistically) with being forced to change his style."
If that's true....1. fuck Doug, and 2. he becomes a prime candidate to get back to his roots and have a big bounce back year. Still want to pick up at least one more top of the rotation guy, but pieces like this could be huge next year.

How about Taylor Ward puts that catching gear back on again. And Matt Thaiss, while we're at it.

In terms of Ryu vs Keuchel, I'll also say this.  With Ohtani, Heaney, Bundy, Canning, Teheran now in the rotation, and with Suarez, Barria, Sandoval as #7-9, we should have enough depth to weather the season.  Most teams try to navigate the regular season with tons of depth, then rely on their more elite talent to get through the playoffs.
I recognize Keuchel is more likely to stay healthy and be decent, but Ryu's upside is much higher, and given that we should have enough SP depth to get through the season, I'd like to gamble on the higher upside SP who we could rely on, should we make the playoffs, along with Ohtani.  I'd have more confidence in a Ryu/Ohtani 1-2 punch in the playoffs than a Keuchel/Ohtani 1-2 punch, IMO.

Angels SP WAR top 6 by IP (2019)
    Cahill: -0.4
    Pena: 0.8
    Heaney: 1.0
    Canning: 1.1
    Barria: -0.5
    Suarez: -1.2
    Total: 0.8
Angels FA SP WAR (2019) top 6 rotation for 2020
Keuchel: 2.0 (Assuming we get him)
    Ohtani (2018): 1.2
    Teheran: 2.4
    Bundy: 2.3
    Heaney: 1.0
    Canning: 1.1
    Total: 10.0
    Total without Keuchel: 8.0
This is a VERY big difference already

We also just increased our leverage in both Keuchel negotiations and trade negotiations. We are no longer desperate - merely needy.

Last year, Barria, Suarez, Cahill and Harvey combined to give up 238 earned runs in about 320 innings. Bundy and Teheran, by contrast, gave up 160 across almost 340 innings.
The 80 run differential equates to a roughly 7 to 8 win swing.
Over simplified, I realize but one could argue that we picked up 7-8 wins, on paper, for about 14 mil and a few prospects unlikely to ever crack the bigs.

Gerrit Cole career: 24.0 bWAR, 3.22 ERA  and we were on suicide watch when he went to NY.
Julio Teheran career: 20.2 bWAR, 3.67 ERA and people are complaining.
    The rotation will be better.

Some of you negative nellies need to realize Teheran isn't being signed to be the Angels ace.  In a six man rotation, this guy will be their #4 and he is a very good #4.
