nothing, Nothing reacted to cals in It’s time we consider signing Trevor Bauer
My assumption is he hasn’t sued MLB because he’s still hoping to get a job in MLB. Ultimately he may sue them.
I don’t do labor law, but his status as being a union member and also the antitrust exemption may ultimately play a role here. But maybe not, I’m just kind of spitballing.

We're picking 8th.
We're not getting Charlie Condon, Hagen Smith, or Travis Bazzana.

Ditto SF and Jordan Hicks. Four starts 1.53 ERA over 23 innings.

nothing, Nothing reacted to jsnpritchett in Gameday Thread (4/16/24): Angels @ Rays: Soriano on the mound, Sano at 1B, Trout DH'ing
Fangraphs has their relief pitchers with a 3.81 ERA for 2023 and that was 12th in MLB.
Also, I never said the Angels bullpen was good or even better than the Rays. My point was simply that the Rays bullpen has been awful this year--which is true.

nothing, Nothing reacted to Second Base in Nolan Schanuel
It’s an identity crisis, and it’s an Angel flaw. Same thing Matt Thais went through after being drafted. They draft a pure hitter and on base machine, and rather than understanding and fostering what they have, they plant the ideas in their head about being a power hitting 1B.
It just isn’t who he is, and what you end up with is a broken hitter with no power rather than what you drafted in the first place. Sane thing happened with Cron, Thaiss and Ward. As soon as they took their careers into their own hands and stopped trying to change, their careers improved.
Schanuel needs to go back to basics like last year and forget this concept of turning on the ball with authority. Just keep slapping it to all fields and milking your way on base. Don’t be who the Angels wish you were and be yourself. If they don’t like it, then it’s their fault, they shouldn’t have drafted you.

Everyone knew Ippei was being shady but Ohtani didn’t realize the money leaving his account for 2.5 years.

It’s starting to worry me a lot. Coming off a major injury last year and getting worked like this so early in the season. Wash must really hate what he’s seeing in Thaiss to give as much run as Ohoppe has been getting. (Yes he’s playing great and hitting well rn but still)

Scott Boras lost the 2023-24 MLB offseason, and now he has lost Jordan Montgomery as a client.
Montgomery, now with the Arizona Diamondbacks, dropped Boras as his agent and hired Joel Wolfe and Nick Chanock of the Wasserman agency, according to ESPN's Kiley McDaniel.

nothing, Nothing reacted to SlappyUtilityMIF in Ippei fired by Dodgers after being accused of theft by Ohtani’s attorney’s
So, you're going to tell me Ippei stole approx 5-15% of his annual income 3M, 5.5M, 30M salary, endorsements and sponsorships.
16M over the last 3 years.
No one knew or saw anything happening? Accounting office, Business Manager, Parents ( When Ohtani first signed they were in charge of his financials. Which may be why it happened later after Ohtani hired people), he had more people that would see this stuff coming and going.

You tell me Shohei never saw ippei being happy excited or stressed da Phuck out??? They were together every single day for 6 years in Anaheim!
Dude never got a receipt at the ATM when he took out some poket change and noticed a large withdrawal or deposit?... COME ON! Maybe, his rent at The George was more than $925k per month.....?

This is awesome. Ippei is the fall guy.
Can't wait for more facts to be released. The Juice died so now we get a new trial of the century.

nothing, Nothing reacted to samwum in Perry is a very not good GM
I understand where you're coming from. Calling players up before their bodies are ready for the rigors of the schedule and season is a legitimate concern.
Maybe I just can't wrap my head around signing a pitcher to a 3yr/$36mm deal without expecting them to be a significant contributor.
You can buy Arte's spinzone about letting Ohtani go because the money wasn't right, but I think its a load of BS. I still believe he left because the Halos were (are?) incompetent. The out-clause in his contract if LAD fires Friedman also tells me Ohtani was unhappy with how things went after the Halos fired the guy who signed him.
Not sure how familiar you are with the backstory there. The Halos got themselves in some trouble in the early 2010s which ruined their relationships in Latin America. Eppler started to repair things and it does seem Minasian has continued to rebuild the Halos' standing, which is great. Just would caution when comparing the pipeline to 5-10 years ago when the org basically wasn't welcome down there.

Sandoval is such a weak minded pitcher. Put him on a raft with Suarez and send them far away

Yeah, I don’t get why Hicks is getting so many ABs. Like let’s say he gets it together and has a good year by Aaron Hicks standards. What is that? A .750 OPS at the very best? I’d much rather give Adell consistent ABs and find out if he’s ever gonna be a legit major league starter.

Wow Gubi and Wayne are ripping into MLB taking Schanuel's record like I've never heard before.
Not to mention a bunch of other bullshit like ridiculous jerseys and Ohtani being involved in a betting scandal.
They're both pretty fired up.
