In Suarez’s case, I remember when he turned the corner in the second half of 2021 he made a big deal about how he was working more deliberately. He would take a big deep breath before each pitch to focus. I suspect now he’s just a little rushed and that’s causing him to lose some focus or his mechanics.

All this talk of Scioscia makes me nostalgic. Nevin should have pinch ran Rendon for Phillips. Chance he goes 1st to 3rd on the Renfroe single. Drury and Thaiss would have different approaches at the plate needing just a SF instead of a hit. Maybe the outcome is different. God I miss that fat Italian bastard…

Scioscia won more games with worse rosters. 2017 we won 80 games with Ricky Nolasco, JC Ramirez, Jesse Chavez and Parker Bridwell leading the team in innings and the current team can't pull its head out of its ass with a rotation of Ohtani, Sandoval, Detmers and Anderson.

They never intended to put Phillips in the lineup. 
 
So far, in 31 games, the Angels have started an OF besides Ward-Trout-Renfroe 7 times. (Phillips 2 and Rengifo 5).
Seven times. 
 
How do you think Moniak would be doing if he played 7 times in a month?

No. 

Well you can't have Rengifo as the super sub without actually having another OFer on the team. You don't want Rengifo to have to play all 9 innings with a lead, and if you just have to bring whoever has the day off (Ward, Trout, Renfroe) off the bench for defense then you're really not getting the full benefit of giving him a day off in the first place.
And the fact that Phillips has batted only 6 times tells you that there's not much playing time for Moniak or Adell. If you have one of those guys sitting around batting 4 times a week, and then one of your starters gets hurt, that guy probably isn't going to be as useful as an everyday player since he's just been sitting around doing nothing. This way, if Ward/Trout/Renfroe gets hurt and needs to be replaced by another everyday player, they can pick from Adell or Moniak (or even Adams), all of whom have been playing everyday. Aside from the fact that they will have their timing because of regular playing time, you are getting a lot more data on how good each of them is. You're not learning anything about them if they're sitting on the bench in the majors.
