When I was a kid we lived in Springfield Virginia. My first baseball game ever was during Cal Ripken‘s rookie year at Memorial Park in Baltimore. I remember my dad telling me how special he was going to be. The thing I remember most was how long it took us to get out of the stadium parking lot.

It was Memorial Stadium.  My first major league game ever - 1977, Orioles vs. White Sox.  I went to games in Ripken's rookie year as well.  I am not sure I have any better childhood memories than going to Memorial Stadium for Orioles games.  I can still vividly remember so much.

If you parked in the parking lot in front of the stadium, they parked 'em bumper to bumper.  You weren't getting out until everyone else was.  Damndest thing.

For me it's easier to take if we get swept this weekend and then buried in August.

The alternative such as 1995 or that late September sweep by Texas in 1998 when they knocked us out of the postseason, or the 1986 ALCS, things like that...those are killers. I'd rather be 10-15 games behind the 2nd wild card on September 1st then still in it on September 25th only to have it snatched away at that point.

I've always disagreed with this. Much rather my heart be broken than not even be in the game.

I think the fact that Kobe came out of that situation as a hero to LA (and some here) and I'm getting attacked for suggesting maybe Bauer isn't the animal you are all claiming just shows how big of hypocrites most of you are.

    Gotta win championships.

Remember, not only did Kobe rape that woman, he threw Shaq under the bus, and should have had his man card revoked.

also - Kobe the rapist won a frigging Oscar from the super woke Oscars crowd!!

    Insane.

It will be interesting if say the Padres trade for Scherzer.... if Dodger players friend Bauer on IG again, so to speak....

Kobe is still beloved... and he was actually charged....

"First, I want to apologize directly to the young woman
involved in this incident. I want to apologize to her for my behavior that night and for the consequences she has suffered in the past year. Although this
year has been incredibly difficult for me personally, I can only
imagine the pain she has had to endure. I also want to apologize to
her parents and family members, and to my family and friends and
supporters, and to the citizens of Eagle, Colo.

"I also want to make it clear that I do not question the motives
of this young woman. No money has been paid to this woman. She has
agreed that this statement will not be used against me in the civil
case. Although I truly believe this encounter between us was
consensual, I recognize now that she did not and does not view this
incident the same way I did.
    After months of reviewing discovery,
listening to her attorney, and even her testimony in person, I now
understand how she feels that she did not consent to this
    encounter.

"I issue this statement today fully aware that while one part of
this case ends today, another remains. I understand that the civil
case against me will go forward. That part of this case will be
decided by and between the parties directly involved in the
incident and will no longer be a financial or emotional drain on
the citizens of the state of Colorado."

  5. @cals is a blood-sucking, bottom feeding attorney.  So all he can see is through the prism of the judicial system.  As the saying goes, if you are a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

But what Spanky, Alfalfa and the rest of the boys here fail to grasp is that there are certain minimum societal standards that major league baseball players probably need to adhere to - regardless of criminality - to keep their jobs.  A few examples:

Let's say that every other word out of Bauer's mouth was the N-word.  N-word, N-word, N-word.  Every black player in the majors, he used that word in describing them.  Not against the law, I don't believe.  He would be gone from major league baseball in an instant.

Let's say that on the day Bauer pitched, he refused to use the bathroom.  He takes the mound with piss on the front and skid marks (or worse) in the back. Not against the law, I don't believe. He would be gone from major league baseball soon.

Let's say that after every time Bauer faced the press, he started with a 60 second statement about how the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting was a giant hoax. Nobody died. And that the kids were actors.  Nothing against the law in believing that.  Hell, conspiracy theories are now the United States' third largest export.  In fact, THERE ARE PEOPLE ON THIS VERY MESSAGE BOARD who perpetuated a dumbass conspiracy theory that the the 2020 election was stolen from Trump.  Bauer would be gone from the major league roster very soon after spouting his Sandy Hook theories.

People who run a billion dollar business may very well decide that it's a very bad look for one of the faces of your sport to pick up internet randos and beat the shit out of them to get off sexually.  So don't just look at it from just the court system viewpoint.
