This quote from that article is 100 per cent true:
I remember flipping on a baseball game once when I only had about 5 minutes to kill before I left for work. I saw exactly two pitches. Vlad took the first pitch (it was outside) and I said, "Man, I bet he wishes he had that pitch again." The second pitch was a change up- clearly a ball-- that almost looked like a sinker. It was straight down the middle. He absolutely crushed it. I just laughed and turned off the TV. Nothing in that game was going to beat Vladdy smashing a homerun.
He's the modern Rube Wadell (without the drinking problem... or at least, without succumbing to a drinking problem). He was just such a damn natural ball player. Not that he didn't work, but watch him hit a home run-- knowing he didn't study the pitcher, didn't care about the situation, just played with talent, intuition-- and its amazing to see how much damn conviction (almost righteous anger) there was in his swing.

To be a little fair, Wells was coming off of a good season with the Jays. Although there were was a big red flag though: his home/road splits. He looked like Miggy at home playing at the Rogers Centre but on the flip side, he looked like 2013 Hamilton playing on the road. And Angels Stadium is not a good place to hit. Seen many guys get frustrated playing at the Big A because of the ball not carrying well, especially at night. But I didn't expect Wells to do as bad as he did though.

Remarkably enough, it happened on the 10-year anniversary of the Northridge earthquake.

so are the chargers really going to play at stub hub center in the meantime? that seems like a really, REALLY terrible idea.

Combo stadiums are the worst place to play baseball or football. The outfield is chewed up for baseball and football players end up playing on the infield dirt. The Angels could never fill 100,000 seats and it is just a bad idea. 2 separate stadiums with a shared parking lot is OK but it is just way too expensive. Never going to happen.

I agree about our need, but I think the team is simply biding time till 2018 when Hambone comes off the books. It's not a pure profit play. Arte has plenty of money, personally, and the team is probably worth a billion. I think he wants a championship before he passes, but has been gun shy after several of his signings have backfired. He will be all-in again in 2018, I suspect.

This had to do with the way Scotty was entering these in. I'll give him a heads up on how to resolve this going forward.

I kind of like it. We should focus on developing good right handed starting pitching, right handed power hitters and left handed line drive hitters with a lot of defensive value.
If anything I'd like them to double down on it were they to build a new park. Teams tailored to their home park has got to be an exploitable long term market inefficiency.

In this day and age, I would think the sizes of these contracts could limit how many seasons one plays. I mean, you get to maybe age 38, you are at the end of your most recent contract and you've earned 2-4 hundred million. The lure of retiring early, rather than traveling around the country for 6-7 months each year, would be strong for me.
I think the record that Trout could retire with is most dollars earned, over a career, especially if he signs with Boston or NY. Of course that record wont last, with inflation. But he might have the highest amount of all time in inflation-adjusted dollars.

A little bit of Brian Roberts to his game. Needs to make improvements on his plate discipline and adding good weight.
