The LA metro area does have Angels fans who are NOT Dodgers fans, as well -- I am one of them.

The Angels originally started out in LA; there's the argument about keeping the name to recognize that heritage. There's the point that LA is more well known than Anaheim and thus easier for non-local viewers to grasp -- the same way the Diamondbacks, Rockies and Rangers don't use the name of the cities they're actually in, but use the more recognizable state names. Or the way the NY Jets and Giants in football don't actually play in NY.

I like having LA in the name, but quite honestly I don't care if the team is officially called the California West Coast Angels of Anaheim Which is in Orange County but Near Los Angeles or whatever. They're just going to be called the Angels regardless. I would rather worry about what they do on the field than the city name.

was gonna make a similar point. Most of the other major cities are built up. LA is built out. It had to be because of geography and earthquakes. Frisco is prettier, san diego too, but get outside of the tourist areas and it turns just as shitty. As far as comparing LA to the other cities back east, its apples and oranges. Manhatten (which most think 'is' nyc) has older architectural structures, so does boston and DC. And i love thise cities specifically because of it. But again, youre talking about cities with buildings that are 150 years old, different design concepts. (Especially so in europe). LA is like berlin. Its got its gems, but most of it is nowhere near as nice as cities like paris or london. Berlin was leveled and rebuilt in newer times, hence why the architecture isnt as classic.
On the flip side, the other major US cities have shittier ghettos by far and away. As bad as LA is id put places like st louis, detroit, oakland, trenton etc way on front. Same concept. The crime is probably the same, but the buildings are way older so it looks worse. Id almost put the inland empire as shittier.
And lets be honest, unless you live at the beach, south of the 405 or east of the 55, most of orange county isnt anything 'beautiful'. Most of anaheim isnt any better than all but the real butthole of LA (south and east LA). Anaheim ends at the 5/91 interchange. If you stay on the 5 north 2 exits later youre in LA county, and it shows. Doubt many can tell the difference between west anaheim, buena park, la habra, etc from la county cities.

The people on here that correlate LA with just the shitty parts of LA should probably correlate Orange County with just Santa Ana. I don't care for LA but it has more to do with congestion of traffic and the amount of people, but then again I feel that way in most places. The only places I don't struggle with very large crowds are the two places I am most comfortable, INO and Angel Stadium. LA of course has beautiful places, Malibu or anywhere along the coast, Angeles National Forest, the hills around Hollywood. In Orange County for every Corona Del Mar or Newport there is a Santa Ana or Garden Grove/Westminster.

The only thing I don't like about Giavotella is that big was of chew he's been sporting lately. After seeing what it did to Tony Gwynn, I just cringe when I see these guys with mouths full of tobacco.

ernesto is a really nice guy, but sports are a fickle mistress. he made the big leagues out of a country that has no history of producing major leaguers. he's a success no matter how he goes out.

Green's defense at first is terrible, but in no way am I blaming him for Giavotella's horrible throw.  Would Cron and Pujols have caught it?  Yeah, if they left the bag.  Green tried to stay on the bag and catch it, which proved to be impossible for even someone as tall as he is, making the throw that much worse.

Green ended up letting it get by and him and a run scored and the runner at first was safe.  However, if Pujols was at 1B, he would've had to come off the bag, the runner would've been safe regardless, and the runner at 3B instead of scoring on that play would've scored on the next regardless.

Green's a limited shortstop and that's ok at 2B and LF, that's trying to play 1B.  In other words, he's doing about as well as expected right now, which means he's not a good 1B.  But let's not pile on and blame Green for Giavotella's deficiencies.  Green already has enough blame on his shoulders without adding Jonny's screw-ups.

we signed him in good faith, he quit on us and turned into a 10 year old homesick little boy at summer camp.
if he wanted to be in tex he shouldn't have come here to begin with, and should have had the class to accept responsibility for his actions and screwing over the fan base and the team
He will do well, we will be laughed at, and ive never before in my life hoped a guy blew out his knee till now
    in short.. #$%^&*@ him

I know this argument is like pushing sh*t up hill, but isn't Grant Green a better version of Josh Rutledge. He's not any worse defensively at SS - it would be hard to be given Rutledge has cost his team 20 runs in just 127 starts there - and is a much better hitter.

I know they're not going to play Green there, but if the alternative is Rutledge they should.

Yep. He was one of those Mets players like Ike Davis, Justin Turner or Josh Satin who was brought up quickly through the minors, did well for the Mets for a stretch, hit a roadblock and was basically written off. Davis and Turner are both doing significantly better away from the Mets; hope Niewenhuis will follow suit.

I saw him play with the Cyclones years ago. He was pretty good at that point. IIRC the name is pronounced NEW-When-Heiss.

I wouldn't write this guy off yet. The Mets give up on a lot of players that still have potential; Niewenhuis may be one of them. The same way Ike Davis got back to form when he got away from the Mets and healed up from Valley Fever, Niewenhuis might really be a nice surprise when he's on a team that gives him a shot, doesn't turn on him, and lets him play.

However, I'm hoping that Green won't get hosed again because of this roster addition.

That's how it was with my cat. I got him when I was 15 and he died when I was 32. He'd been there for me through high school, college, all of my 20s, my first "real" job and all sorts of heartbreak and triumphs. When he had to be put to sleep due to advanced cancer, I was beyond bereft and I grieved for a very long time. You're right, they really are family and they mean so much.

Many condolences. Losing a beloved pet is heartbreaking. I've been there too with my cat and dog, and I know it is really rough. Hopefully those memories will bring smiles and not tears eventually. All the best.

Green has played 1B, LF and he can play 2B, SS and 3B if needed. What the heck is Cron, a 1B/DH only still doing up here?

Grant Green is hitting .346 and has been a doubles and triples machine lately in AAA. I don't understand what the hold up is.

That's the only thing I can think if, he must have pissed in someone's Cheerios. He's done EVERYTHING expected of someone to be in the majors. He's hitting in AAA, he's switched positions, he plays positions from which the Angels are getting little or no production from (LF, DH, 2B) he's sat the bench and hasn't complained to the media once.
How the Angels have planted him in AAA is really unfair to the team and him. So the only conclusion I can think if is that he pissed someone off along the way. I wouldn't say he 'd save the offense but he can certainly hit .290 with lots of doubles if given a consistent shot.

Considering that right now there are six guys on the active roster beneath the Mendoza Line and another two or three who are pretty damn close to it, I still fail to see how Green's .261 would not be an improvement.

That's pretty mean, considering that people usually buy those bricks with the idea that they will be there for a while. They could have at least given people the chance to take their bricks home instead of throwing them away.
