  1. it seems like you're saying if they hit like they do in AAA, then they should hit 2nd. i don't see how that's based in reality. if brandon wood hit the way he did in AAA, then he'd be our starting 3rd baseman and he'd be hitting 4th. the 2nd baseman is going to be hitting at the bottom of the lineup, until one of them proves that they can handle a spot different from that. end of story.
  2. "lips that touch alcohol, shall never touch ours." maybe that should be your personal slogan. it resonated so well in the past.
  3. one of the all time great baseball names.
  4. it's a bit meta of scioscia because this very statement is scioscia's version of the ball really exploding out of his own hand. he has tremendous natural managerial talent.
  5. it should be standard morals clause in all mlb contracts. there's absolutely no reason why employees being compensated in the 1% shouldn't be held to a "moral standard". let the mlbpa fight it. they'll lose a public opinion battle and will have to cave, just as they did the PED battle.
  6. he's not getting banned from baseball tomorrow. even if manfred tried to ban him the mlbpa would be by his side in court and they would win. too many of his infractions have come before the current amendments to the drug policy.
  7. ok. i wasn't aware of that. it seems strange that you can't have protections for yourself as an organization, but it's mlb so whatevs.
  8. "There is no language in the contract protecting the Angels from a relapse involving drugs or alcohol. But Hamilton must undergo three drug tests per week, and he is subject to penalties under baseball's joint drug program should he test positive." i didn't think he'd be the hot mess he has been for us, but i never understood not having drug language in the contract. that always seemed needlessly wreckless. you offered him the biggest contract, he was going to sign it no matter what drug language you inserted.
  9. both scenarios work out famously for the red sox. the only scenario really that bites for them is if he sucks and is a total bust. i just don't see that happening. he looks really good. even if he were to turn out to be an average mlb'er, it's not really that bitter of a pill to swallow. he and this contract have way more upside then many are giving it credit for. hell, the tax itself is probably a huge write off for them.
  10. i think the dude is going to be an all star. he's pretty impressive to watch. i think we missed out big time on a young stud to pair with trout in the field, and that would've been something to see.
  11. that is a ****ed up picture. end of message.
  12. other than hiding it in the sense of hiding it while doing it, i don't remember him evading it. i remember him getting caught and admitting it, while using some creative language because he wasn't sure if he was going to get sued or charged with a crime. i'm not a romantic. when it comes to baseball, it's considered a fault of mine. your wording got a little garbled in that last part, but i think i got the message. i often hear that sentence, "only idiots get caught." i believe it's been said so many times that it's become accepted as fact. i'm not sure i believe it, but that's just me. i don't see repetition as greater evidence of fact. in any case, he cheated and was stand up enough to admit it and take his punishment. i still think he and others should have lost their mvp's awards, but i can forgive a person that admits their wrongs and accepts their punishment.
  13. as a fan, and staunchly anti PED, i'm ok with giambi. he was the one guy who didn't hide from his usage. he took it on the chin and stopped using after that. i can forgive and forget when you respond in stand up fashion. acknowledging that he still cheated.
  14. i don't see the dodgers as locks by any stretch. i think they're a good team being overestimated and they're in a division with the champs and a padre team that can win a lot if they're offensive moves were effective.
  15. jesse jackson and strength of character? interesting combination.
  16. the ncaa's mistake was too extreme of a change to the bats. they're basically playing with dead bats now. rather than mess with the ball, the ncaa should just change the rules to a modest representation of what the bats were 4 or 5 years ago.
  17. it took a day for a corporate bail out. i'd say we're doing pretty good.
  18. you only say that now because you're afraid of cezero.
  19. oh c'mon, that's my favorite part of the story. "guys, i'd like to clear the air." "i object to the use of the word clear." "but you're my attorney." "strike that from the record."
  20. that seems like a competitive advantage regarding world series home field.
