  1. there's a difference between milb and mlb, that some guys can't transition to, all fans are well versed in this aspect of professional baseball. however, i have watched giavotella play in omaha when he was a major part of that royal youth movement, and he was a tremendously good player. i really liked him a lot, actually. i saw that he was dfa'd last night and i thought that would be a good get for the angels. i'm glad that we signed him, he will most likely eventually accept a AAA assignment in spring training, but if he turns that corner, then he'll be a good player for the angels with talent. these are the kinds of guys that you want with signings like this.
  2. the funny (sad) thing is, even with all these moves, there's very little padre buzz going on down here in san diego. everyone just talks about the chargers and how they're going to "bolt" for LA.
  3. i hope they do. that'll put that team under 80 wins for years. shit, i even like the A's.
  4. seems like a pretty strong trade for the padres too, honestly. 26 year old catcher who can hit.
  5. boxscore. for scouting. lol, you're too much, man.
  6. go ahead angels. be the third team. do something mind blowing.
  7. post AB's multiply by two. come on now. that's weak sauce. cron 253 plate appearances joyce 493. joyce ops+ against righties 119, cron against lefties 110. i like cron. if we use this platoon effectively we get the production of a significantly better player for a fraction of the cost.
  8. a lot of jokes seem to be going over a lot of heads in this thread. alright everybody, let's break and come back in five.
  9. like dipoto has been pushing this whole offseason, "we have an average or better player at every position." now, we can include DH in that statement with some degree of confidence.
  10. that son of a bitch. get a rope. yeah, he just didn't realize there were better stats for him to judge by. he'll be better next time, i vouch for him. he's a good egg.
  11. he may or may not be overhyped, that's kind of par for the course with top overall prospects and ROY winners, but the padres have a distinct lack of talent on the roster and a profound lack of interest by the fan base.
  12. no, it's going to be the exact opposite. we'll be flipping our lids when scioscia keeps putting him in against those lefties, despite his complete lack of ability to hit them. if we use him right, he'll be a valuable asset most days of the week.
  13. true, but rios's upside is way higher than joyce's. rios has had some incredibly good seasons.
  14. this is a pretty darn good trade for the angels. i think it's clear this is their primary move to replace howie's lost offense. joyce has been a much better hitter than he gets credit for. he hasn't had an ops+ less than 108 in like 5 years. if you get that or more from your DH, then you're ahead of the game. i see him getting most of his at bats in the 5-6 spots, and some in the 2 spot in an attempt to see how the lineup plays with him there. he's a pretty darn good bat for jepsen, and i'd think he'd be pretty easy to extend. his name doesn't carry very much cache.
  15. that is interesting. although i know nearly nothing about moncada. the angels would have even more cost control for future years than they do now. in some ways, you have to think that's interesting to the FO. assuming they like moncada at all.
  16. i love baseball, but if i knew that mlb would get non guaranteed contracts in return, then i'd be willing to forego any salary cap and endure an entire strike season to get it. that is not going to happen.
  17. agreed with one caveat, the fan experience should cost less. it's absolutely retarded that it costs so much for families to go to mlb and nfl games. i resent in some fashion how much athletes and owners make because i resent how much it costs to attend. and that's still with the added fact that artie keeps the fan experience cost below the averages.
  18. if he posts after july the angels are out no matter what, due to the 300k cap being implemented at that time, from my recollection. i don't think the angels have any interest in him anyway, i think it's a non starter from the FO for whatever reason. although, i disagree with them personally, if i'm correct of course.
  19. you can not get a top 20 prospect in a trade and call that trade a salary dump, especially when the salary you're dumping is 9.5 mlb dollars.
  20. dipoto is still saying he'd like to sign beckham, but is letting him see if he has better playing time and contract opportunities.
  21. people like to romanticize themselves. they think of themselves as riggs, but i believe in knowing thyself, and the truth is i'm murtaugh. all day long.
  22. i think it's pretty obvious that he was referencing the site.
