  1. there's no truth to this whatsoever. i've seen inside the clubhouse with ichiro and he's completely accepted. his personality is different than what is publicly shown though, he's got a filthy mouth. like really filthy.
  2. mike trout would have gotten that if he had the leverage for that kind of deal, but he didn't due to team control for 4 more years at the time. these contracts know no limits.
  3. i hear you. the pujols contract is nearly infinitely worse than the martinez contract, both existing in the realm of things you should not do.
  4. boras is killing it on this one.
  5. win. i think florida is the only exception to that rule.
  6. you know, if i worked for the angels, it'd take me about 15 minutes of honest effort to find out who your source is, based off of all the info you just posted. i'm just sayin'.
  7. ok. i'm not trying to convince you, but you're right...guys only break down from defense. maybe the contract will work out great for the tigers, but i don't like paying old players, it doesn't have a strong history. the tigers could have let him go and got some really good years out of him or they could've QO him. paying him 15 million on a one year deal wouldn't hurt either of them, but they didn't do that. they locked up a 36 year old for four years, and paid him 17 million aav.
  8. you'll be dead before that ship sets sail. the giants have a system in place reminiscent of the cardinals and the dodgers just got really smart, literally. the padres seem to have a smart enough gm, but he's not empowered by ownership in any real way to effect "tampa bay ray" type change, at least not in my opinion. san diego is an eighth grader in a locker room full of seniors. sure they've got some hair on their balls, but not much else.
  9. martinez is 35 right now...36 next month. 17 million dollars a year from 36-39.
  10. order of preference is clearly ross, then cashner or kennedy depending on the trade. ross is really good and easily could be our #1 or 1B with richards.
  11. yes, it's dollar for dollar this year, and yes they can't sign anybody else from the international market worth a shit for the next couple years.
  12. i know i'm not saying anything you don't already know, but salary and performance are not correlated. we're going to get the aging version of pujols, and his escalating salary isn't going to influence that one way or another.
  13. i know it's the offseason and fans need things to talk about, but this is a bogus report. it's not even what he said. i suppose it's worthless to say anything when the natives are restless.
  14. if seattle gets themselves some offense, then they got a stew going!
  15. i looked at that list and i saw the name cory luebke. cory luebke's story is a baseball bummer. one of the most talented pitchers that you've never heard of. if given just a reasonable amount of health, he could have been an ace. i know who he is because i live in SD, and i was hoping for years that somehow the angels could steal him, but knew there was no way the padres were giving him up. he was a really good pitcher. i'd still like the angels to grab him, just in case he has health on his side now.
  16. i'm going to say this in every FA thread. the angels literally can't afford to make another mistake in FA. any FA they sign, needs to be as close to a sure thing as possible. they're a C-hair away from being devastated payroll wise by a bad signing. low to mid level FA's are the way they will go for a bit, until they get some leeway from their big contracts.
  17. i listened to the interview it's total bs. it's actually a hatchet job at arte moreno. passan makes some mostly innocuous comments about moreno, and the radio hosts package the interview with overstated headlines to get website hits. things like, meddlesome moreno not a baseball man or angels favorite to sign sherzer. i love rumors, but i hate when they make up the rumor just so they can talk about the rumor.
  18. just let him wear a cardinals jersey. the color scheme will blend. it's genius.
  19. i wouldn't be interested in grilli at those dollars. those are near closer numbers. i'll predict that he signs somewhere for 3.5 million.
  20. almost every single post in this thread is about rumors and what ifs. the fact is, right now, they surrendered the 15th pick for michael cuddyer. bad move. i wouldn't give up a second round pick for cuddyer, especially if i was a team like the mets, who aren't exactly banging on the door.
  21. not being a grammar nazi, but the expression is "pales by (in) comparison".
