  1. it's impossible to punish the adults effectively without the kids being included in the collateral damage. it's hard to know what a kid knows because the rules and bylaws can easily go over their head. it's pretty easy to convince a kid of what is an obvious lie to an adult. that being said, you can't allow their championship to stand when they cheated, other kids that weren't a part of cheating would be victimized twice by it. also, anybody that had anything to do with the cheating should be barred permanently from youth baseball. we don't need them teaching kids that wrong is right.
  2. the crazy thing is that before signing shields, but after all those moves, their payroll was actually lower than last year.
  3. if this is true it becomes the largest free agent contract the padres have ever signed. want to have your mind blown? the largest FA contract the padres have ever given was to joquin benoit for 2 year and 15.5 million. think about that shit. The largest contract the Padres have ever handed out is three-year, $52 million deal they gave Jake Peavy, but they traded him and paid little of it.
  4. it's important to remember that ruben amaro is the worst gm in baseball. he is so woefully out dated and terminally over his head that one must imagine buzzards circling the phillies corporate offices.
  5. here we go with the postseason everything or nothing rants again.
  6. never heard of it. i was talking about oakland.
  7. i've heard of these fans. you'll never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.
  8. i won't bother breaking down the specifics, but organizationally from top to bottom, the dodgers have the better team. they have a very good mlb team and an extremely good looking farm system. if only a handful of their prospects really pan out, their mlb team is in great shape. if the angels loaded up on moncada, ibanez, baldoquin, etc., then i'd say the same thing about the angels. it's the second reason why i'd like them to really go over the top on their international signings right now. the #1 reason is i'd just like to watch the players on the angels.
  9. valid questions. it boils down to a philosophy of paying a guy for what you think he's going to do in your uniform, rather than what he's done in another uniform. additionally, the age differences between these guys and the average FA, which is post 30 years old. lastly, the contract demands are significantly less as well. moncada is the outlier and even with penalties his contract will be less than a lot of FA and virtually none of it goes against your tax assessment. i'd much rather the angels miss on a young stud with years of potential production ahead of him, than an older player with years of production behind him.
  10. this plainly implies that the mariners are a better team than the angels. in the statement that if their is a gap, the angels are the ones that need to narrow it. jeez, from what i remember the angels had the best mlb record in the regular season last year. i guess we've really taken a few steps back.
  11. i'd love it if the angels signed him, just because from what i've seen it may be fun as hell to watch him play.
  12. i'd be pleasantly shocked, but shocked nonetheless.
  13. 3 year contracts are safe contracts. it's very hard to get burned.
  14. if we signed moncada and ibanez, then we'd be turned around in about a month or so.
  15. stepping on your toes scotty. sorry, i left the reply window open while we went out for dinner. in any case, i obviously agree with you.
  16. that's way too much. the top paid closers last year were: papelbon -13 soriano-11 johnson-10 nathan-9 kimbrel-7 i'm betting something like 3 years in the 24-27 million range. 30 is top dollar and anything around 21 is a bargain. keep in mind that street represents himself, so he won't be having to pay a commission.
  17. acknowledging that you've retracted, but keep in mind that while having those career worst numbers he still went 33/35 in save chances. add in the fact that the padres were the mlb's worst offense that year and we can assume that he didn't have a lot of 3 run leads to work with. the point being his job is to close games and he's done that with an amazing amount of success, the fact that he doesn't rely on the traditionally overpowering fastball of a closer, should lead one to feel pretty good about an extension.
  18. i honestly am not sure why we aren't signing multiple cuban prospects. it seems like the perfect opportunity to stock our farm system with some high value hitters, which is really what is keeping the system "down". we're going to be out of the market for a few years because of baldoquin, so i'm at a loss personally.
  19. do they actually call him deep freese? i've never heard it before.
  20. this thread is teetering on the edge of a jack clark radio hour.
