It's weird seeing people undermine the importance of having good farm teams.  I'm not saying all of them should or need to contending every single year, but it's good for the organization to have winning teams at every level.  Not to mention the experience of winning and playing in meaningful games is very beneficial to the development of the prospects.

The Angels are interested in every starting pitcher under control who doesn’t suck, and probably a couple who do.

TroutAdell got a reaction from stormngt in Cardinals claim Adalberto Mejia off waivers from the Angels
This shuttle between SLC and Anaheim has been grossly mismanaged. Peters throws 5 shutout innings and gets sent down. The same thing has happened to Barria and Suarez. How can you build a rotation when you never have five starters on the staff at any one time. Now they are stuck with Tropeano to start a game against a hot offensive team. He will most likely get shelled then get sent down to get shelled in SLC. Losing Skaggs was a huge a huge loss, Heaney being injured is not a surprise! Removing starters after five innings even if they are throwing well puts the strain on the pen. This is on Eppler and Ausmus for not having pitching depth and for the shuttle back and forth to SLC.

TroutAdell got a reaction from Angel Oracle in Why we have a serious Wild Card chance
With only three starters right now, none of whom have shown any consistency, it will be difficult to put together a steak that can last 20-30 games. The bullpen has been very good but with only 5 innings from starters they may get burned out by September. They have to hope that Heaney can come back healthy (a tall order) and pitch better than he has this season. If they are to make a run  Eppler will need to strike gold in the trade market. After signing Harvey, Cahill and Allen in the offseasonI am not overly optimistic.
I will say that I have enjoyed watching this team since the break. I sincerely hope that this run can continue.

It seems like we talk about the free agent pitchers all the time on here, but not so much the position players.  Who do you hope the Angels target?  I would love it if the Angels went all in on Yasmani Grandal.

Cool article on Fletcher and how weird of a player he is. Basically, how he is able to take a unique skill set and turn it into a huge success that doesn't look like anyone else in baseball right now.

The way that Eppler and Ausmus use their starters you don’t need starters to go deep into a game. There needs to be more emphasis on the pen. The big arms in the minors are at least 2-3 years of away. Soft tossing lefties like Suarez and Sandoval are just depth pieces. Barria can be a back of the rotation starter. The problem is that the Angels have a whole staff full of back of the rotation pieces. Finally, the biggest need is behind the plate. The Angels haven’t developed a good catcher since Bengy Molina almost two decades ago. It has been nearly as long since Weaver and Lackey fronted a decent rotation.
There will be at least a dozen teams in on Cole and probably that many on Wheeler. You can’t count on outbidding the Yankees, Dodgers and Red Sox for top of the rotation types. Eppler needs to trade for and develop some big arms and soon.

What a weird time to make your MLB debut. I can't imagine finally reaching a lifelong dream and everyone else is devastated.
Not to say that he isn't sad as well, but it certainly won't be like most MLB debuts.

Tyler Skaggs is gone. Unfortunately for Angels fans, this is an all-too-familiar place. We’ve been here before. It’s not a comfortable place. It’s a very sad and very confusing place and we will never, ever get used to it.

We Angels fans, like every other fan base often use terms like “us” and “we” when discussing our favorite team. That speaks to the level of connection we have with our team. We experience the emotional highs and lows that go along with winning and losing. Even though it may be a bit silly, we feel that the team’s victories are also our victories. So when I say “we lost Tyler Skaggs” – that “we” is real. It’s tangible. It’s meaningful.

But… this loss is not about us.

This time is about Tyler’s family and those that were close to him. Our thoughts and our prayers go out to them as they try to manage their grief, their sorrow and their pain.

I don’t know how the Angels move forward from this. I really don’t. Baseball is hard enough as it is.

Perhaps we fans can play a role in helping the team move forward by simply showing up. It’s time to show how much we care and that when we say “we” and “us” we really mean it.

It is my hope that on July 12 when the Angels return home for their first home game since Tyler’s passing, Angels fans show up in huge numbers. We need to show up even if it's hard. We need to show up even if we don't want to because again - it's not about us and showing up matters.
We also show up by telling stories. It’s important to tell the stories that speak to a time when we might have had an interaction with Tyler that meant something special to us. We share the good things we’ve read or heard about Tyler too. We recount those stories to others and in doing so we all remember.

We remember that Tyler Skaggs was one of us. We remember that Tyler Skaggs competed at the highest level and he sought out victories so that we could experience joy.

We are thankful for having had the opportunity to be connected to him in some small way. He may not have known our names, but he definitely felt our presence every time he stepped on a baseball field. Tyler showed up for us and now it's time for us to do the same.

We will all miss Tyler Skaggs, but more importantly – we will never forget him.

Can we stop with the analysis of the Anaheim fans? I think we can all agree that by most measures, St Louis Cardinal fans may come out ahead of Angel fans in "fandom".

But Jesus Christ, what kind of dick head says that about his own fans when, it's been pointed out in this thread how the angels have carried this replacement-level c- sucker for years without complaint.
The day when Albert Pujols isn't wearing an angel jersey just cannot come soon enough.

Albert may be projecting. Deep down he knows his Angels career has been a dramatic reversal of form. And many (including Cardinal fans) will see his move as purely mercenary.
Had he remained close to his first decade production he may have been more magnanimous. But he now comes 'home' for the first time since the switch and projects both nostalgia for his own Cardinal adoration and the contrast in Anaheim.
