Honestly, trade him now. we need way more than we will be willing to pay for. with a trade you can get a top tier starter, a position player (SS) and a bunch of near ready minor league arms. his value will never be higher. Do I want to do this? Absolutely not. But as others have mentioned, we are just going to float around 500 for the next few years. His salary and controllable years along with MVP and every other award, now would be the time to move him.

Considering that in 2012 the MVP went to the first triple crown winner in decades, you have to think that Shohei being among the Pitching and Hitting leaders, something that hasn't been done in the last 100 years, would make it a slam dunk.

How about catchers give signals that the other team can’t decipher. Like they already do with a runner at 2nd and like managers and 3B coaches literally do every single time they give a sign. 

Let's just trade for Mookie Betts instead and play him at catcher.

The price for elite players; especially elite pitching is always going to be too high.  I've said this before - this is the reality and the business of baseball today.  If you want to increase the chances of your team being in the post-season, this is the price you have to pay.  Gerrit Cole is a unique talent and one that doesn't become available every year. 
Mike Trout isn't getting any younger.  Arte Moreno isn't getting any younger.
It's time for the Angels to do everything they can to put the best possible team on the field.  The cost is "somewhat" irrelevant.  It's going on 18 years since the Angels won a World Series. 
Look at how much money that Nationals have tired up in Corbin, Scherzer and Strasburg.  They're willing to pay the price. 
Great pitching is the best recipe for success.  Cole is the best of the best right now.  He's not enough, but he's a start!

I hope the Astros win it all and Cole shines. If the Halos are going to dump millions on a guy, I want to be sure he isn't Kershaw 2.0.
