Harper was billed as the best player in decades and better than Trout.  At this point he is just above average.  I would say that is definitely overrated.

The article and the comments in thread had nothing to do with him as a player.  You're trying to goad people into responding -- aka known as trolling.  
 
Accurately calling the guy out for being a world class douche doesn't automatically mean a person thinks he wasn't a great player.  The inability to separate the two things seems to be your issue.   Arod was a world class talent and all time great, just like Barry Bonds...  like Bonds he made the mistake of falling into PEDs and as a result willingly risked his standing with the general public.
 
He made his choices right or wrong (lots of different POVs on the PED era), he's now living with the fall-out -- both physically and with public perception.

I'd rather have a sleeping Don Baylor in the dugout then a wide-awake Mickey Hatcher in the dugout. 

Pretty sure he has a Grade 4 which is something that only applies to our Angels.

If we are not going to sign anyone else, the one big mistake this offseason was not retaining Jerome Williams.

The statheads of the world have to stop watching box scores more than the games... they are the one killing it and creating all these selfish asshat players that care more for thier stats than anything else... they have to, or it costs them money and such... its a joke as far as im concerned.
Stats have their place.. i too am a stats guy, but there is more to the game than pure stats, period.

+1....my sentiments exactamundo...liked the Jerry hiring, a lot...but this is further proof, after last offseason, that he's going to leave things in a total mess...

So we traded two young players for two guys who would have been great acquisitions two years ago hoping that they return to form. Sounds a lot like the plan that left us 18 games out last year.

The Cardinals look down and out in this series, but if they could find a way to come back it would  f**king epic. Crush the hearts and dreams of the Fenway faithful, whose tears would be so yummy and delicious.

I'd be perfectly fine if Dipoto is retained for one more season, at least. I think he deserves another chance, despite his horrible decisions thus far.

We know this season has been a huge disappointment and everyone has ideas and plans to correct the team's performance.  Remember these are opinions and suggestions.  There is no need to call someone an idiot or other names.

We (as mods) get more and more complaints for some members posting here that has crossed the line of being considerate.

I'll consider this a misunderstanding before I get too worked up about it.
If it WAS Arte who intervened on this deal, then this organization is ****ed for as long as he is the owner. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt though. Gammons did not explicitly say "Arte nixed the deal" even though it was somewhat implied.

So is it now the opinion of these stat guys that RBI's are pretty much worthless now?

He has 31 HR, but that doesn't take away from your point.
 
The 30+ HR thing looks great in the box score, but the .750 OPS does not. Even though players who hit 30+ homeruns don't grow on trees, players who put up a .750 OPS do. I think his overall production would be pretty easy to replace when you take homeruns out of the equation. If you find a player who hits .270/.330/.450 with 20 HR instead of 30, you are likely getting the exact same production. The HR might add a few more RBI's to Trumbo's stats, but that isn't a great way to judge a player.
 
I like Trumbo as well, and I would rather he NOT be traded, but if he gets you a middle of the rotation starter or a good pitching prospect you definitely have to consider it.
