Okay guys... Simmons isn't "marginal." Not by a long shot. He's possibly the best defender of all time... He's an upgrade, a big one, and with 5 years of club control to boot. He's very valuable. Yes I get that we gave up a lot, too much even, but to say that Simmons is a "defensive specialist" is insulting to the guy who has no match defensively. It's not like he's completely inept with the bat either. He's a 85 OPS+ hitter with the best defense you've ever seen. 4 to 5 WAR is expected. He's 26 and coming into his prime. He's worth a lot.

Donaldson will get it because he had better offensive players batting ahead of him (and behind him). They both had almost exactly the same BA with RISP. Trout at .352. Donaldson at .353. Donaldson had a great OPS with RISP at 1.058. Trout was Ruthian at 1.201! However, Donaldson had 50 more plate apperances with RISP 176 to 126 and that's why he will win the MVP. If Trout had better players hitting ahead of him (and behind him), the Angels win the AL West and Trout wins his second consecutive AL MVP award.

I'm not sure what crazy circumstances would have to be in place for me to feel that batting a .590 slugger lead off is the best idea.

Trout had one month with a poor OPS, which was .690. Donaldson had one month with a poor OPS, which was .720. 

I can't believe Fernando Salas is still on this team, let alone brought in with the bases loaded and no outs... I know the options in the pen aren't great but I f'ing hate Fernando Salas.

I love this place.  Just one week ago this place was the board equivalent of hookers and blow.  One bat away from the WS and that is was very obvious that the Astros were playing above their head at the beginning of the season.  
 
Now the Zoloft is out in full and being abused with exclamations that previous three weeks was just a mirage and the Astros look the better team.

The disdain isn't for who he is it is for who he isn't. If we would have traded for Tulo, people would say he costs too much money. If we traded for Puig people would say he has an attitude. If we traded for Bruce they would complain that he is coming from the National League and from a hitters ballpark. If we would have traded for Reddick, then we would have made a trade with Beane and he is smarter than anyone else so we obviously overpaid. So unless we were to trade for the best left fielder in the big leagues, that doesn't cost a ton, and we gave up close to nothing, then there will be people that are less than thrilled.

In general, should Green get playing time over some of these yahoos like Joyce?  Of course.  
 
Last night though, we were ahead when Frees was hurt so Scioscia went with the better defense at third with Featherston and we were well ahead when Trout need to be put back in and lose the DH spot so he went with the best possible defense.  That is my thinking anyway.

Your suggestions were lousy in the opinion of most (all?) of the people who replied. Even the one poster who "understands your point" didn't actually agree with you. I'm not trying to be an asshole, really I'm not, but when your post calls for selling off Huston Street... you're gonna have a bad time. I realize you later said you had forgotten about his extension.
 
If you had made this exact post in a month minus the Street part it wouldn't come across to me as insane, only pessimistic.
