If he was picked up and developed by some other team for a reasonable cost, eventually had success at the MLB level and the Angels had never bothered to attend a free evaluation session, the "f'n Arte/Eppler" posts around here would be epic.
It's free.  It's a couple hours.  The scout might get his autograph for Arte.  There is no downside.

Financing a sports stadium in CA is nearly impossible. He couldn't get it done in Tustin either and they weren't offended by his LA name change.
Arte is screwed because he has no real alternatives and Anaheim knows this. Nothing else really matters that much.

You may be asking the wrong question.  How many games do teams lose because of being mismanaged?

Perhaps I've been influenced by the rabid leftists in my office but it seems that the pensions should be for the guys who weren't able to make it to 10 years.  If you've made, at minimum, from 327k (2006) to 507k (2016) for 10 years your retirement account should be bursting at the seams even when jock taxes and agent fees are accounted for.

Not sure why you guys are so anti-automated strike calling. If it was seamless and accurate what do we lose? I suppose we won't have Escobar drawing home plate for the umpire anymore, but he'll find something else I'm sure.

The position of your first round determines the position of your second round. So if you pick #5 in the first round,  provided there are no sandwich picks,  you get the 35th pick in the draft. That is a lot better position to be in than picking 24th then 54th.
The playoffs is not going to move the club forward to a long term solvency so in truth I am hoping for the best outcome for the club.

Interesting that he thinks that the uni will have that much an effect on the chance of winning the game  just because he doesn't prefer them.  This just screams primma donna.

Junkballer reacted to Vegas Halo Fan in Angels GM Billy Eppler says a rebuild is 'not in the DNA here'
A number of things here. He can't be openly pessimistic in statements that will be published. He also can't tip his hand regarding the end game, because it may reduce the return on any deals that may be in progress. There is also a season to finish. If he comes out now and says that we're blowing the whole damned thing up and almost none of these guys will be here next year, it pretty much kills any incentive for anyone to try hard. Forget motivation.
I don't read anything into what he said or didn't say. GMs making statements to the press is largely diplomacy and canned answers. He isn't going to lay out the five year plan in a news conference, whether we have one or not.

The problem is that Eppler has to work with Arte and Dipoto's DNA.

I'd like to see MLB commit to a 2.5  hour average game time (excluding extra innings from the calculation of the average) and do whatever it takes to reach it.  Ultimately, if they can't make it happen by less drastic means, implement a pitch clock and limit all mound visits unless changing the pitcher.  These are significant changes and not preferable, however, the pace of the game is a far larger problem to me personally and my enjoyment of the viewing experience.  Your mileage may vary.

The big difference between pace of play now and in the 70's is the pitcher.  In the 70's if no one was on base the pitcher pitched the ball if it wasn't hit he caught the ball on the mound, took the sign from the catcher and pitched.  Today's game is, pitcher pitches the ball.  Comes off the mound, catches the ball walks up the mound, gets comfortable, and then looks in for the sign and pitches, and that's the best case scenario.  The next thing that's different is the hitter does the exact same thing.  In and out of the box.  They used to call Mike Hargrove the "Human Rain Delay" because of his antics between pitches in the batters box.  Now that's the norm.  Hell, wanna speed up the game, get rid of batting gloves.  The hitters screw with those things between pitches even if they don't swing at the previous pitch.  I'm sure I sound like "Old man yells at clouds" guy, but it's just an observation. I don't even mind the pace of play, it doesn't bother me, but it was a better game or at least moved better back then.

That's exactly why they are doing it.  Baseball is much slower than it was 30-40 years ago.  Watching games back then was almost like fast paced baseball.

Because the game is losing the interest of Elite talented kids from playing the game & thats why we hardly see any new superstars anymore. Meanwhile American talent in Ice Hockey is at an all time high with an American player being the #1 prospect in the upcoming draft & in the NHL american Patrick Kane led the league in points & the best goalie this year was american Ben Bishop.
With the amount of people diagnosed with ADD/ADHD its not surprising either.
