I believe it's a stat that is being mismanaged. I hate that a pitcher's role is limited by their number of pitches. Growing up a pitcher's performance was judged by their performance on the mound. If they looked gassed or missing their spots, then they were taken out. Not because they hit 100 pitches. The PC is now consuming a pitcher's role. It's a stat that is now being followed inning by inning. A pitcher can be 3 innings in with 50+ pitches and the focus turns to the amount of pitches. He could be throwing a shutout with 5 k's but the concern is if he could last til the 6th. Who cares if he's making the outs.

If a pitcher has 30 pitches and giving up tons of runs, then they pull them out. But if they have 100+ pitches and allow a runner or two, then they pull him. Doesn't make sense to me. If a pitcher is coming off rehab, then the PC is a legit concern.

mancini79 got a reaction from fan_since79 in MS on pulling JW
His performance on the mound was evident enough he had a lot more left in the tank. He was 74 pitches in and still hadn't given up a walk. He gave up a measly single and all of a sudden Sosh has to choose the "match up" over on field performance. So for 1 single AB in the 7th, he compromises every other AB for the rest of the game by bringing in the pen.

Sosh also was quick to push the button on Jerome, yet let a relief pitcher struggle through 3 BBs (while Jerome had NONE).

Pitbulls are not born killers. This is why dog fighters end up killing many of them when training. They can't get them to fight. The media jumps on any violence dealing with Pit Bulls because "Pit Bull attacks...." in the headline sells. When another dog attacks a person, it's read as "Dog attacks..."

Ah, the myth of "clutch hitters". Good hitters perform any situation and bad ones suck in all situations. A run in the first counts the same later in the game.

You did your mom proud. Keep up the great outings. The Angels REALLY need it. But I felt Sosh went to the pen a bit early... but that's another topic.

Heck, even Hawk Harrelson was impressed with the outing.

mancini79 got a reaction from stormngt in Dipoto blew it with Jean Segura
Dipoto could extend Trout to a 10yr $125m contract and everyone here would be ecstatic. Then Trout could have a rough next 2 years and some of those same people say "Dipoto was an idiot giving so much $$$ to a player with only 1 year under their belt".

mancini79 got a reaction from Brandon in Dipoto blew it with Jean Segura
Angels were going for a playoff push. When the trade was made, the Angels were only 4 games out and everyone knew pitching needed improvement. That is exactly what he did.
    - Segura was expendable since there wasn't going to be a spot for him to play in the near future. He was also ranked in the 50's in most prospect reports.
    - It's going to take a lot more than 32 games before I consider Segura as becoming the best MIF in the game.

It's tiring that people constantly knock Dipoto for the exact moves most people agreed with at the time. But now that people have the luxury of hindsight, the over criticism festers.
