At this point I think I would prefer an experienced manager like Buck vs. a younger guy who hasn't been an MLB manager before.  I don't think it's a good time to experiment.  If this was a total rebuild I might think differently.

Between Tamlin's data re availability, and SP not being able to go 5 or 6 there was not a lot of options to work with.

I have no problem with strikeouts over contact but going 0-2 to 3-2 is not accomplishing either goal. That was the pitching downfall, not closing out an at bat when ahead in the count and throwing unhittable pitches to try and bait a swing. That only worked on Angels hitters.

The Angels should hire Darrin Erstad.  That guy was a hustler and knew how to play the game.

They don't have doors on their offices, too expensive.

The Angels already brought in a plate discipline coach.

Without Loup available, the Angels are in danger of winning this game.

I'd be perfectly content if they just stacked all the young guys at the top of the lineup and buried the vets/soon-to-be free agents at the bottom, just to get the youngsters an extra plate appearance here and there.  Schanuel, Neto, O'Hoppe, Adell, Stefanic, Walsh, Drury, Moustakas, Grichuk for tonight, for example.

Yep, that's exactly what I'm hoping for!  I'm fine losing every game something like 6-5 with Neto, O'Hoppe, and Schanuel doing well, Detmers, Canning, Joyce, and/or Soriano pitching well--then Herget or Loup blowing it late.  Ha.

I voted for Bob Melvin. Just think he would get the maximum out of the team; and what that is who knows?
I do remember when he was manager of the Oakland A's. I also remember hating when we would get beat by a team with a third of our payroll.

If the game ends with the Angels losing 6 to 2, with Neto and O'Hoppe hitting HRs and Schanuel extending his on-base streak, I'm totally fine with that outcome.  Seeing the rookies hitting well and the team potentially improving their draft position is about all you can ask for at this point.
