Lots of teams have won the WS without Ohtani. So can the Angels.

No thanks on anyone with 2 tommy johns. Thats why i think Ohtani's contract at 46m will primarily be as a DH. thats crazy.

I have no problem with him not wanting to match that offer.  The Angels sinking another huge 10year deal to a 30-40yr old Ohtani would be a mistake for the on field success LT.
The problem is not seeing the obvious (he's leaving and we're not contending) and trading him in summer 2022, off-season 2022, summer 2023.  Every opportunity to start a rebuild using the one true asset you have...and failure again from Arte.  Just sell...please

It's weird, i equally think: wow, they stole him being locked up for 5 years at under $30M......and wow, they sunk 5 years into this 30yr old guys who can't stay healthy.  I seriously don't know what to think about Glasnow and his next 5 years.  I also didn't realize he was already 30.  I thought he was younger.  Maybe his arm is fresh and 30-35 will age well.  Or maybe he's damaged goods and will be spurts of success with mostly DL time.
LAD certianly have some huge upside, elite potential in their rotation for 2025+...like 3-4 ace type guys.  Then again, it's possible none of these guys (Ohtani, Glasnow, Buehler) are ever healthy come the playoffs in 2025+

I think I counted 9 TJ surgeries amongst the Dodgers 2025 rotation assuming Buehler re-signs.

They only have like two healthy starters. But their 2025 rotation is shaping up to be ridiculous.

I think they are better off not having Ohtani.  Years 30+, multiple injuries, 45-50M cap hit, 6 man rotation, etc.  -- that's not a recipe for success.
They got his best years 23-29.  Thanks Shohei!
Now onto the next one.  Start scouting, drafting & developing better.

As great as he was, and as amazing as his personal stats were, I did not like the way the Angels just became Ohtani's supporting cast. It reminded me of the NBA. The big superstar, and everything tweaked for his preferences and comfort.
It created a dependent mindset. Waiting for Ohtani to be the difference maker. I bet team mates subconsciously also expected him to do the heavy lifting in many situations. He was hyped as the best player in history, and the rest of the team were his supporting cast.
You can also.look back and say that it was similar to dependence on Trout. Maybe, but  to a much lesser degree. Lots of different dynamics on and off the field.
So now we're changing the mindset by necessity.
If the main regulars stay healthy enough, there are a few modest upgrades and Washington is a managerial upgrade I think they can hover around .500 this season. Maybe be in the wild card mix till later in the season and sneak in if there are positive surprises.
The pressure of being hostage to Ohtani's ambitions is lifted. A new manager and coaching staff will have a fresh take on the roster.

The only right answer to this question was to trade him. It was very clear we didn't have the pieces or the talent to make a run, no matter if we tried or not.
The Padres dd the right thing by trading Soto. We should've traded him. Too late, time to move on.

No, but I also don't want to get anyone's hopes up.
Ohtani's negotiations held up the market, and now free agents are allowing their individual markets to develop. But also, if two teams are offering similar money, the player is more likely to choose a winning team with a strong farm that can infuse excitement and talent.
Right now, the Angels aren't a winning team, and while O'Hoppe, Neto and Schanuel are exciting, much of the farm is barren. So I'm guessing that unless the Angels offer more money, they probably aren't at the top of anyone's list. And I doubt they're involved in the trade market for guys like Cease or Bieber. The cost will be more than I think they can afford.
So my guess is they'll round out the roster with some low cost vets.

I'm even more on board with a Bauer signing now that SO is with the LAD.  But it doesn't seem to be in the cards for Arte.  Missing an opportunity imo.

Agree but it's not hard to imagine that Moreno wants a star's face to go up on a mural where Ohtani's came down.

Honestly ever since Ohtani made his announcement I've been more hopeful we’d get news that Snell and Bellinger signed elsewhere so that we don’t pivot there than news of the Angels doing anything
