Angels in 2030 got a reaction from ukyah in The Official 2020-2021 Hot Stove Offseason Thread
Well first off, Detmers and Rodriguez are a nonstarter for me.  But Adell in a trade for a #2 SP signed for a few years at a good price -- done.  One or more of Adell, Adams, Jackson, Paris, Jones, Knowles, Rameriz, Dev, etc. -- gone for the right guy.
I don't think we need to spend $7M on a RF.  That's a waste of resources better spent on the BP.

    Bauer + Barria/Sandoval < Odorizzi + Snell/Gray......imho

I'm not against signing Bauer.  I used to be solely FA guy and not trade any of the farm.  But i'm open to that now and think it might be the better option.  Get a cost & year controlled #2 type SP and move Heaney/Canning down a spot -- i'm in.

That rotation is not good enough, we need a 1st tier pitcher. I've seen how that type of rotation ends up too many times.

Angels in 2030 reacted to BTH in Do the Angels really need to sign or trade for two starting pitchers?
If the Angels sign two starters, the rotation is Starter A, Starter B, Bundy, Heaney, and Canning with Barria in the bullpen. If Ohtani is healthy, then he would be a 6th starter starting once a week.

You are acting if bumping Barria and/or Sandoval out of the rotation is bad thing, but it's actually a great thing, as it gives the Angels more depth.

I agree with the majority here that you need to bring in two starting pitchers. One an ace, whether that's Bauer or a trade for Snell or Darvish. Another via a FA signing like Odorizzi, Walker or Tanaka.

IDK, i think worrying about starts is foolish.  Even if everyone miraculously is healthy for the Angels on the rotation, there will still be the issue of Ohtani.  Personally, anything he provides in 2021 SP wise is gravy.  I'm not relying upon him for any time...let alone major innings.  In the best case scenario (healthy + producing top results), he's likely going to be limited on his innings.  Not sure how much but i can't imagine anything more 125-150 (on the high end).  Especially if we make the playoffs and you want to save him for such. Might be 100 at most.

Angels in 2030 reacted to Second Base in ESPN on what it might take to trade for Snell
This team would grow to regret ever trading Detmers and Paris. But ESPN is right in this case, the Rays have no reason to trade Snell unless some idiot overpays. This would be an overpay, and the Angels would be idiots for making that deal.

Contingency plan with a small amount of upside. I give this a hearty 3 "Mehs" out of 5.

Angels in 2030 reacted to Inside Pitch in Did Trevor Bauer pull a Rocky III
Bauer has said as much, multiple times.  He's a good pitcher who's always had it in him to be more, in that respect he is essentially a better/healthier Andrew Heaney/Tyler Skaggs.  With Bauer its always been about what he should be .vs what he actually was.  While there is risk (when isn't there in FA), at least he's shown he's capable of performing to those expectations put upon him.   But when its all said and done, he's more Corbin than Cole and the money needs to reflect that reality IMO.

Remember when Rocky trained for his second fight with Clubber and Apollo knew they would have to go at a pace that would only sustain a few rounds?
Did Bauer do a version of that for 2020?
Knowing that he'd only be making 10 or 11 starts as opposed to 34, did he approach the season differently and create a pace that would be unsustainable for an entire season knowing that the shortened schedule was his free agent showcase?   Like a reliever who's stuff ticks up in shorter stints?
Are we putting too much stock in his 2020 performance as an indicator of what he's capable of going forward or did he truly 'figure something out'?
Because before this year, his 2018 season was the outlier to the rest of his career.  And while it shows what he's capable of, are one full season and one shortened season's worth of numbers enough to pay him 25mil per to find out which of those pitchers he really is?
Is he the next Max Scherzer or does he turn into a pumpkin after the age of 30?
I think it's a fair question.  I, personally, lean toward wanting to take the chance but there's a fair amount of risk here and you can't be wrong because if he's only mediocre over the 3-4 years it takes away a healthy chunk of the budget.

This isn’t a knock on anyone.  But I always laugh when I read “if we get an ace and another strong SP” our rotation will be really good. Like what team will not have a good rotation if you magically add both a #1 and #2-3 to their current rotation?!? That’s one HORRIBLE rotation/team if you added that and their rotation still sucked.

Angels in 2030 reacted to Angel Oracle in Trade Adell (+ club control through 2026) for Snell (3 years, $42M left on contract) straight up?
Let this sink in.  Aside from 2018, Snell has averaged just under 5 innings a start.
Is that because of a) pitch counts, b) TB being very conservative with starting pitching innings, or c) endurance concerns?

Bauer is @Angels 1961 and the only way he signs with the Angels is if they commit to Ohtani playing RF.

Some of you are funny.  Businesses change their names for lots of reasons all pointing to one fundamental reality....they want make more money.
I don't know what the rationale was for such a major change, but I am aware of how important an identity is to many groups.  I see the importance of group identity in this thread with some of the comments.  I think Cleveland is simply trying to navigate through some very treacherous waters where not changing is just as detrimental  as changing.

you'd give up marsh, c.rod, koch, and one of jackson or paris for either one of those guys?
that's a brutal trade for the angels.

I'm not sure I agree. We have so few pitchers with high upside in our system. Trading one of them would really hurt.
That said, if we don't get Bauer, I fully expect Minasian to get Snell or Gray, whatever the cost.
