This is called "counting your chickens before they're hatched."

So if the Angels lose on Sunday, will you write a eulogy for them? After all, they would have lost three times to the Royals while the A's only lost once.

The moral of the story: Don't gloat without having something to gloat about. The Angels really haven't accomplished anything more than the Angels, other than be a greater disappointment (so far) in the postseason.

We won more than the A's did. Even if the Angels get swept.

That's a solid starting three, peeps!

If Skaggs can get back on track in his next start or two, he'll be under a 4 ERA as well.

As far as his ETA to the Angels. Way to early to project right now. Like Don, we will remain patient with the doctor's directions and guidance."

summit21 reacted to Chuck in Angels, Trout discussing six-year, $140M deal
A source tells USA Today's Bob Nightengale that the Angels and outfielder Mike Trout are negotiating a six-year contract extension worth around $140 million.
The prospective deal would keep Trout with the Angels through the 2020 season. Talks of a long-term extension has been reported in recent days, and with Trout's new $1 million salary for 2014 out of the way the two sides can focus on hammering something out. Previous reports from Yahoo! Sports' Jeff Passan had the deal in the seven-year, $150-160 million range, but either way, it seems like only a matter of time before the two sides agree on a deal that will pay the 22-year-old a whole lot of money.

+1, this. If it doesn't start until 2015, then we have bought out 3 years of FA correct? I'm definitely happy with that scenario. Pay him 1-2 million this year, announce extension after season starts, with signing bonus starting in 2015.

summit21 reacted to Brent Maguire in Michael Young and Lance Berkman
So besides not hitting for more power and getting on base more, they were equal? That doesn't make any sense considering getting on base and hitting for power are the 2 most important things as a hitter.

Young was an above average hitter and piss poor defender in his career. He had a totally fine career but he's nowhere near HOF worthy. His career wRC+ of 104, which accounts for park factors and the league factors, says he was 4% better than the league average hitter in his career. Factor that in with his defense and you're looking at an above average player, nothing more.

Meanwhile, Berkman put up a 144 wRC+, got on base above a .400 clip and slugged .537. He's the 2nd best switch hitter of all time, posting better offensive numbers than Chipper Jones. I'm on the fence with Berkman making it but he has a WAY more deserving case than Young and it's really not close.

Blatant was the way Rangers fans turned on Josh Hamilton after believing Jon Daniels lie that he never got a chance to negotiate a deal. He had exclusive rights to work out a deal, then another month without talking to Hamilton before he signed with the Angels.

But there were all those non hypocrites in the stands booing Hamilton in his return to Arlington even after he spent time signing Ranger fans autographs before the game.

I don't know if Scioscia will get traded or not, my guess is probably not. But he will not take much of a cut in pay when he goes on to his next team and it wouldn't surprise me if he gets a five year contract. Hate all you guys want but the second he is no longer our manager he will be the number one free agent manager on the market and teams will get into a bidding war for the guy.

For the record, I don't think he's gonna get trade. I do think he'll get a settlement and step down though.

I think some of you here underestimate just how valuable Scioscia is. He would be signed very quickly if allowed to leave. While I will admit that a trade is uncommon and unlikely, Scioscia is that rare manager that could be packaged in the right scenario. Despite some of the disdain and disgust with him from our fan base, he is highly regarded and respected within the game of baseball.

A side note on Sandberg and his long term future with the Phils, from the press conference:
"Amaro said Sandberg takes over on an interim basis and would be evaluated after the season. In his first game Friday night, the Phillies were shut out by the Dodgers, 4-0, dropping them to 53-68 overall and 5-20 since the All-Star break." Not exactly a ringing long term endorsement...

Rumor has it the Phillies would be a good fit for Scioscia, so why not just trade him? If we release him we eat all that money, which he would likely get on the open market anyway...is it the years left that is the problem in a trade? Anyone care to elababorate on why a trade would or would not work???

I think the vast majority on here felt a raise of 100K would not have broken anybody's bank, and would have been better received by all involved (fans, media, etc).

Hard feelings and all that aside, the Halos could have given him 100-150K more and this would be a non-issue. It is an issue not b/c of fans, but because of previous precedents by other teams which the Angels chose not to follow. If you really think this does not sting Trout just a little, your wrong, IMO. Do I believe it will impact future negotiations? No. The Halos could have just given him the 15-20% raise above minimum and would have looked a lot better from a P.R. stanpoint. I think they dropped the ball here.
