Reveille1984 got a reaction from ten ocho recon scout in Quick and dirty 2024 lineup assessment
Yeah, I'm just taking this year as a nice flash in the pan, best possible case scenario for Moniak.
He has a 2.8% BB rate and around a .400 BABIP.  I'm thinking more like a .240/.270/.440 line is more realistic.

For an owner who supposedly "loves baseball" - he doesn't always act like it.
I've said it before... the Angels have a culture problem and that starts with Arte.  At the end of the day, Arte may know how to make money - but he doesn't seem to know how to lead men and women.  He's not inspiring.  Great leaders make their teams feel safe.  He doesn't do that from what I can tell.  He seems to lack humility and I think many great leaders have that too.
I get the impression he loves the idea of owning a team.  He loves being at the park, etc. - but he doesn't have the passion for the game the way some owners might.  Maybe that's not fair.  I don't know the man.  That being said - over the years a picture of who he is has been painted for us and most of us wouldn't want to hang that painting on our wall.
At the end of the day - it's his team.  He gets to do what he wants to do and it's all out of our control  I'm an Angels fan, but being a fan isn't the most important thing in my life.  It's not even close.  Baseball is supposed to be fun.  Angels baseball hasn't been much fun of late.  Thankfully, I have other things to do and focus on.  I keep my eyes on the Angels because when it is fun - it's real fun.
My interest would probably be even less than it is right now if it wasn't for AW.  AW helps keep my interest in the game.  AW is a big part of my fandom now.  That's saying something.  That's a testimony to the work Chuck has done.
Players, coaches, GM's, broadcasters, etc. all come and go... but the AW faithful are here day in and day out.  That helps make baseball fun for me.

You couldn't have fucked up the organization any more if you had tried.

Are you really a Dodger fan who always intended to make this organization a laughingstock? If so, mission accomplished.

Sell the fucking team. We don't want you here any more.

The fact that they won't even give an update until tomorrow is such a bullshit Angels thing to do. They obviously know, yet are making the fanbase wait around. This team is such a massive shit show. My only hope is that all of this convinces Arte to sell this offseason. This is the saddest day of a very sad season.

It would be fairly hilarious if he actually just up and retired.  Sadly, a dude owed this much money would never do that.

If they just found out two weeks ago.....either this is the worst medical staff in the history of professional sports or Rendon is liar.  Both are probably true though.
This organization is a total shit show under Moreno.

Reveille1984 got a reaction from ELEVEN in What is this team’s “Rock Bottom” for you?
Once Ohtani leaves, we'll pretty much be at rock bottom IMHO.
Our ownership is the running joke of baseball.  Our only star level player is 32 and on the backswing of his career.  Our farm system is perpetually one of the worst in MLB, and we got rid of the only real top 100 guy we had for the walking corpse of Giolito.  We have a rotating stockpile of #3/4/5 starters.  Our position players are all middling to slightly above average, with no real standouts outside of some possible glimmer of hope for Neto/O'Hoppe/Schanuel one day turning into something.  But they are all still big question marks.
Like Stradling said, I just find other things to do and gradually care less about the Angels.  I follow other sports, hockey and NFL are coming back around.  Play some guitar, hang out with my wife and son, drink some beers and enjoy life.

Ownership is a major factor. Arte owning the team for years to come is a foundation for more rock bottom results.
From just my own interests in various sports I've seen major shifts in team fortunes coming because of ownership changes.
Eddie deBartolo being forced out and having the franchise run by his sister and her son led to a dramatic downturn in fortunes for over a decade for the Forty Niners. Jed has matured, but it took over a decade of big mistakes
Charles Bronfman selling the Expos to a penny pinching consortium led directly to the franchise moving.
The sixties Yankees sale to CBS abruptly put an end to that dynasty amongst other factors.
The Montreal Canadiens sale to a carpetbagger for a few years before he flipped them brought confusion and suspicion.
The Vancouver Canucks under current Aquilini ownership has produced soap opera like stories and mostly poor seasons.
And those are just teams I have followed.
Owners have objectives and priorities. Income is a major common goal, but pride, prestige, community status are factors to. As well as whatever personal quirks they may have. Even  nepotism or family legacy have been motivation for various owners.
And not all owners are equally smart, shrewd or good judges of management personnel and other hires. Conflicts with their insider advisors is always a risk if the owner over rules or forces compliance with his own directives. And the insider advisors themselves are potentially a big part of the problem.
Arte had had some success and not all problems are his faults. But he's been there long enough to see the patterns of his ownership. And given the failure to sell means he's basically in lame duck status or at least not fully engaged in the future of the team.

Reveille1984 got a reaction from oldguy in Angels Open to Trading Trout (IF he requests one)
Barring the legitimacy of the article, even if he wants out there's just not a lot of realistic options out there.
He has around 7 years / $250M remaining on his deal and already can't stay on the field consistently.  That likely isn't going to get better in his age 32-38 seasons.
We'd probably have to be the ones adding just to get rid of that contract.

I'm gonna keep pointing this out as long as people keep pushing for him: take another look at what Urshela did this year before he got hurt.  His underlying numbers were pretty weak: low exit velocity, low hard hit %, low barrel rate, higher than normal BABIP, etc, etc.  Couple that with the fact that the dude is recuperating from a broken hip (!) and he sure seems like a candidate for a bad year next year.

Or Rendon could just say "I'm out for the season with my injury" and not have to deal with the question anymore.
His general assholery seems to be more of the problem.

Reveille1984 reacted to Duren, Duren in OC Register: Angels drop 3rd in a row to A’s as pitching, defense falter
As Casey Stengel pleaded to his expansion Mets, "can't anyone here play this game?"
The degree of ineptitude reflects an expansion team. The fielding is especially atrocious. There is almost zero speed on the team other than Ohtani. And the base running is often an adventure.
Pitching and hitting are self evidently mediocre. And forget about anyone rising to the occasion in clutch situations. Or leadership.
Isolated individuals from different organizations who can't get in sync and have no chemistry. With many of the players in decline or totally raw and inexperienced. As well as the predictable  usual major injuries to key players.
Led by a manager and coaches who seems to react with a time delayed mindset.
Just trying to fast forward the season and get out of Dodge as fast as possible.

Reveille1984 reacted to Angelsjunky in OC Register: Mike Trout expects to ‘have conversations’ with Angels management about the organization’s future
First of all, Trout and Ohtani aren't the same, so let's separate them.
Secondly, the Braves are about to reach the postseason for the sixth year in a row, won the World Series in 2021, won 101 games last year and have the best record in baseball this year. What they're doing is working.
Thirdly, they already have the player who is arguably the current best in the game in Acuna, locked up through his age 30 season for $17M a year. They have most of their young core locked up for the next five years, with a relatively flexible payroll.
So the question is, why would you want to bring in a 32-year old former superstar who can't stay healthy and is owed almost $40M for each of the next seven years?
Ohtani might be worth the risk for them, but the question of "why" is still valid when you consider their success.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I realized like 5 years ago this team would never win anything as long as Arte owns the team.  He's not going to approve a full rebuild.  I 100% expect them to spend more money again this offseason, and again not go over the luxury tax, to try to win with the young group we have + free agents + whatever you get from Trout/Rendon
