What evidence is there that he'll get better in his 30s? His wRC+ hovers right at 100. Literally average. Defense has been down this year (granted might be due to the ankle injury) compared to years past. With Rengifo and Fletcher along with the guy we drafted this year we have options. Much cheaper options that we can put money towards a true need in starting pitching. Simmons could be put to good use with that one more year on the contract.

He could kill a man and rub his feces all over the clubhouse and I'd still trade for him because he can pitch more than 4 innings.

I'm wondering if the Angels get Cole in the off season and sign 1 of Odorizzi or Alex wood. Jake will be in his age 30 season and Wood will be entering his age 29 season. Pairing Cole with Odorizzi/Wood along with Ohtani, Canning and company would go a long way. Like Jeff has said in the past. We don't have the luxury of having assets we can sell for prospects that we can afford to lose building towards 2020 and beyond. 2019 is a wash at this point. Look to 2020. We keep the farm intact and improve the rotation significantly as well by adding those 2 FA pitchers. Let Canning, Saurez, Barria continue to start and hopefully figure some things out to end 2019 on a good note and come into 2020 with some confidence.

Agree with Strad. Dodgers have made all of their big SP moves via trade or development. Greinke was the last one. Most/all of their FA SP signings have been for mid tier guys. Not saying the Dodgers won't check in on Cole and see but this is a guy the Angels almost have to overpay for. Do whatever it takes to get him signed.

Since the new ownership has taken over for the Dodgers name one big contract they have signed a pitcher to.  I think they have given one $100 million free agent deal, total.

This just absolutely heartbreaking. Makes my heart go cold just at the thought of this. Such an amazing person and always great with fans. A reminder that this really is just a game and these are actual human beings out there. I'm truly gonna try to refrain from personal insults to players anymore. This was very humbling. Something we all should do. RIP, Tyler. TS45

HaloCory22 reacted to totdprods in Goodwin
Goodwin is still benefiting from an unsustainable .404 BAbip, but working in his favor is the fact that he's been consistently good every single series so far. He's also showing great pitch recognition and patience - seeing nearly 4.5 pitches per plate appearance, which is fantastic - and making good, hard consistent contact with an increased line drive %.  And now that we're hitting 100 PA range, things start to normalize a bit, at least for trends.

I'm expecting regression, but even if he drops from his current slash to something resembling .275/.350/.450/.800, we still have a damn good OF. He'd also have to slump quite a bit in the next couple weeks to drop from his current 1.000 OPS to an .800 OPS and he hasn't let up yet, so we'll see. May will be a big test for Kole and Goodwin. Kole has been all across the board this year - some encouraging signs, some not.

Likeliest scenario? Goodwin struggles a bit, Kole doesn't blow his chance, and Goodwin becomes the 4th OF when Upton returns. Kole eventually gets dealt in July and Goodwin, not Adell, plays out the year in RF as an audition for 2020.

HaloCory22 got a reaction from WeaverFever in #1 and #2 Starters (2019 elephant in the room)
The biggest thing for me as a fan (besides watching Trout) is starting pitching. When we had Weaver/Haren at the top of the rotation it was truly fun watching them. They had lights out stuff and made watching them a joy. I felt incredibly confident in the team's chances of winning that day. Not a single one of our guys even remotely gives me that feeling today. Skaggs is the closest due to his stuff but even he is far from it. He's more like CJ Wilson confidence level. I know he has the stuff and potential to do it but will he? That has to take a toll on the offense too. I know 2 of our big bats are out right now so things will get better but it's a lot for the current group to take on. Taking on two bottom of the rotation FA signings and hoping they'll fill the gaps is blind faith. You can argue the team is building for next year, sure. Ohtani could be that "Ace" we're talking about but I'm not putting all my eggs in that basket. I'd love some insurance to build WITH Ohtani. Who knows how Heaney will pan out. Hell, who knows how most of our rotation/prospects will pan out (obviously). We need some stability at the top. Depth is great especially with how crappy the Angels luck has been of late with SP injuries but there needs to be a horse on the hill every 5 days we can truly be confident in. If we have 4/5 guys with 4.50+ ERAs is that actually depth?

Why can’t Skaggs, when healthy, be the pitcher he was before his injury last year.  He had a 2.62 ERA in his first 19 starts.  So is he that guy or the guy in his final 5 starts pitch so poorly that his ERA jumped to over 4?
Or another way to ask it.  Is Skaggs average/slightly below average pitcher because of constantly being injured?  Or is he average/slightly below average pitcher because of ability/stuff?
I think of an Ace as someone you feel confident with in a big game.  I DO NOT feel that way about Skaggs.  But he had a nice run of good performance.

I browsed through this article yesterday. Can't remember if it stated anything about a new stadium in the same lot. That would be the ideal situation.

    LA Live is amazing.
Texas Live in Arlington is amazing and even better once their new ballpark opens up.
Seattle has a great atmosphere around their park along with the Giants and Padres.

The Angels really need this. They're making strides with Golden Road and some of the new apartment buildings but building up this massive entertainment district would really put the Angels on the map for must travel destinations for opposing fans. In a perfect world I'd love to see a new stadium and a new arena for the Ducks on the same lot together. Both teams really really need the upgrade. Honda Center is close but still a bit of an inconvenience.
