steveuk reacted to Stradling in Angels promote Reliever Austin Warren, recall Matt Thaiss, place Jared Walsh on 10-day IL, option Andrew Wantz
Might consider changing the thread title to “Angels Call Up Austin Warren” since it’s his first call up.

It's 'The Open Championship' - called as such because it was the first and only when it began. In Europe it is just called The Open. Some people call it the British Open in the USA because somehow they feel us Brits are maybe a bit big for our boots and need reminding that there are other Opens out there too... just my mere conjecture of course.
Ahem, I think you might want to flip that on its head:
WW2 - USA with the Brits - A resounding win
Korea - USA with no Brits - No win
Vietnam - USA with no Brits - No win
Falklands - Brits no USA - A resounding win
Iraq - USA with the Brits - A resounding win
There is definitely a pattern here...

Rendon .303 BA
Fletch - .286 BA
Year to date OPS - Shohei is 3rd and Walsh 9th in the AL

steveuk reacted to eligrba in We really need Rendon back
If Mayers is being overused by being asked to get the last two outs of an inning after pitching the night before, the Angels are in deeper trouble than we think. This is ridiculous. You know what would help Mayers; throwing strikes in places other than the middle of the plate.

steveuk got a reaction from Taylor in Per his Instagram, Ty Buttrey is retiring from the game of baseball
I didn't say I cared, I'm just interested to know. Angels61 said "just wait until he misses that first pay check" so I wondered when that would be.

steveuk reacted to Chuck in Ohtani's Spring Struggles
In terms of Trout, Rendon and others who are established guys looking good in ST, no. Same with Pujols. If he hit 10 HR and batted .500 this spring, it wouldn't change my mind on if he should get more starts over Walsh at 1B.
But when you got someone like say Upton who finished the season strong and has carried that over into ST, that shit matters IMO.
In the case of Ohtani, we needed to see the velo and secondary pitches that were both absent last season.
There's also guys like Lagares, Rengifo, Ward, Barreto and other position battles that you like to see good performances from.
Finally who doesn't like to see our top prospects in ST, especially when we didn't have a minor league season last year. I've loved what I've seen from C-Rod and Detmers thus far.

steveuk got a reaction from Redondo in Jose Quintana could end up being a really nice pickup.
I know it's just spring training yada yada, but I've been fairly impressed with all aspects so far. Need to rein in my optimism I think!

steveuk reacted to WicketMaiden in OC Register: Alex Cobb pitches effectively, with improved velocity, in Angels’ win
That was a really fun game to watch. For the first time in a long time it felt like old school 'Angels baseball' - good base-running with guys in motion and stolen base attempts, scoring runs on outs, tight defence, hitting to all fields. The pitching was pretty good too (how much are we paying Cobb again?). Loved it. Hopefully a sign of things to come and a fun season ahead.
