Awesome - seems to boost Walsh's chances of being added to protect from the Rule V

Two Justin Upton types? Um, so spend $41 million for less WAR, sounds silly.

I agree, but it will be quite easy not to lowball if they wait for Machado and Harper. You invite Trout and his agent into the office and say, "Manny and Bryce got X and Y; you're better, and deserve more. Here's what they got, plus Z% more."
In a way it doesn't matter what that "Z" is, as long as it is more than X and Y. That's your starting point: more than X and Y.

Most I would go is 20 years 4 billion dollars. Not a penny more though.

Good idea, except that Canning should not be part of the pitching group. They need more RHP help, as it is.

Choosing between Fletcher, Rengifo and Jones I think is a lot like choosing between Eckstein, Izturis and Kennedy. I think whatever the case, you pretty much win.
If you prefer guaranteed production, you go with Fletcher, if you want a little more potential but with a little less defense and certainty, you go with Rengifo. If you want to play the lottery and try to hit the jackpot, you go with Jones, knowing full well that he's less of a guarantee than both Fletcher and Rengifo.
Can't knock anyone for going in any one direction.
Personally, I'd go with Fletcher, just because I don't think Rengifo's upside is great enough to outweigh the less certainty of success. I think the best way to do this would be to keep both. One in a starting the role, the other in a utility role. If Rengifo can't consistently produce, make him a utility infielder and enjoy the elite defense and contact skills of Fletcher. If Rengifo's tools play up, move Fletcher to the utility role and enjoy the increased production.

Sounds like he really wanted to end with 30/100.

To answer your question, they have more wins.

ScruffytheJanitor reacted to Stradling in CJ Cron
Just looking at Cron’s numbers vs Albert’s numbers for this year. They are pretty damn close. Albert has obviously hit into more double plays, two more than Cron, but Cron has struck out 103 times where Albert, per usual hasn’t struck out much, only 54 times. Albert grades out better defensively according to dWar. They have the same batting average, Cron has a better OBP. The difference comes in the OPS. Cron has a total of 11 more total bases, 3 more homers and 14 more walks. Cron has a 1.4 WAR and Albert has a 1.0 WAR. Cron is basically Albert who can beat out a ground ball to SS when the SS is playing 10 feet on the outfield grass.

If I were drafted after the 20th round, my number one goal would be to leave with as much team swag as possible. Like, I'd never want to buy another pair of athletic shorts, workout shirts, or ball caps again.

ScruffytheJanitor reacted to Angelsfan1984 in MLB Sees a Sharp Drop in Attendance
My guess is parking and concessions. Why would you pay well over 200$ for a family of 4 out the door when you can watch it at home and feed the entire family for 1/4 the price? While I definitely believe the live experience is wonderful, its not worth the financial cost to do it more than a couple times a year for a larger family. I don't think length of game has anything to do with it, as i'd rather be somewhere for longer if i'm paying that much money to be there.

Hell, I would have drafted him just to have him as a future coach. Kid clearly loves the game, has a huge work ethic, and probably taught himself a bunch about pitching the past few years. If he doesn't pan out, I'd pay his way to get a physical therapy degree and let him work with young pitchers.
Of course, the chance you'd get a fireball pitcher would be pretty good, too.

Oh, I did... the fact that his response to getting drafted was to go and workout was the cherry on top. The kid clearly wants it bad.

I can't blame Dipoto for that trade. The trade worked out well for both sides. Grienke pitched well for the Angels and obviously Segura developed into a top hitter and was blocked by Aybar and Kendrick at the time. I don't think it's as bad as what the A's gave up to get Jeff Samardzjia a few years ago.

If it wasn't for Dipoto, the Angels could've also had Grichuk and Clevinger still with the team.

You forgot Canning, who may well be 2019's Jaime Barria. Suarez will also be in the mix.

Hitting is overrated. We play in a pitcher's park anyway, so who cares. Scioscia can manufacture runs with the contact play, bunting, and all that NL stuff.
